I have set up some discounts using the discounts and surcharge settings etc which works, however

Is there a way that it can adjust the line price rather than put an adjustment onto the order, as when we download the orders and export them we can not recognise the adjustment line anyway.

Basically, if an item is £10.00 and the customer enters the coupon code to get 10% discount I would like it to register £9.00 for the item rather than £10.00 then show a -£1.00 adjustment.

I'm afraid you will not be able to do this. Actinic will show the full price, then show's the adjustment at the bottom.
You can consolidate all adjustment on one line, and thats done by "View | Discount and Surcharges Settings | Miscellaneous".

It will be under "Consolidate Cart Discount Line For". Here you can pick the types of discount you wish to show on one line.

So this function can not be used then, if exporting orders out of Actinic.
