$ amounts in cart not right

I have another question for all you guru's!
I have setup a few products that are free for the first 8, and then 9 and up get charged.
Two questions:
1. When I place an amount of 8 or less, it still shows charges until I hit update or refresh. Then it corrects itself. Is there a fix for this?
2. The first 8 items are supposed to be free, but when I order 9 items, it charges for all 9, instead of 8 for free, and 1 to get charged.
Is there a way to set this up so that the first 8 products remain free no matter what quantity is ordered?

This is unfortunately how it works. All I can think of doing is to set up price breaks for 9, 10, 11 etc dividing the amount you wish to charge into the number of products ordered. For example if you want to charge £9 if 9 are ordered you could set it up to charge £1 when 9 are ordered and the correct amount will be charged.
