Advice on how to make my menu work.

Due to the design of the site I need to get the top menu to line up with my image. It's OK at the top level but as soon as you go into a section the menu expands to accommodate additional buttons.

Please can someone give me some ideas of what I could do to get this to work.

put the images in a table and go 100% width. Make the background colour of the table the same as the images
