i originally posted this on the network forum with no replies, so i thought i'd try where there is more traffic
I run a web business together with a business partner
We run actinic V7 Business from a laptop as either of us can then take the business home so to speak and carry out uploads / order checking etc
My question is - is there a way in which we can do without the laptop and have Actinic V7 on 3 PC's on 3 sites but all using the same data ? - or are we stuck with everything on one laptop ?
Any help / recommendations would be appreciated
Thanks

Actinic have recently released a multi user version of the software, although I think it is restricted to LAN.
In my book it would be better if it could run over the internet, i'd use it then :D

Hi there
Like Jo has written we have a Multi user version of Actinic, but if you don't want this, then all you can do is install the software on each machines, and swap around snapshots I'm afraid.
Kind Regards

Thanks guys,
Ill check out the multi user version first but the swapping of snapshots looks a good idea too

Hi all,
Software is available that enables remote access to a PC using the internet.
As I understand it, it allows applications and files to be accessed from the web. Would this work with Actinic?
The software is available at www.gotomypc.com
I have not used it.
Any views?

Hi Nick
I have seen some people who use Remote Desktop to access a client pc and run their Actinic software. Never seen gotomypc though.
Kind Regards

Just to add to the GoToMyPc comments... we've been using that method successfully for a couple of years now. Our MD works from home and regularly logs onto our main data processing server in the office in the evenings to change prices.
Works a treat.

The shop for blank discs
In the US we normally purchase software not rent it. $200/year rental per machine seems a bit pricy.

Would remote desktop not do the same for free assuming Windows based machines? I use this on supposed "days off" to sort out the server and user machines but not to run Actinic I have to admit - although I can't think of any issues why it would not work.
Anyone?

We have Actinic running on the PC at the warehouse, which I can access via our VPN using PC Anywhere from home (apart from today, looks like Nildram has been down). Sometimes I copy the snapshot over to home so as to work more quickly on things such as adding products (in which case I leave an open word document on the monitor in the warehouse to that effect, removing the message when I've updated the warehouse PC with the latest version).
I can also print stuff from home PC to work printer and vice versa which is great
This system works fine for us, the only upgrading I'll be doing is to get a laptop then I can work from my new swing seat in the garden :D .

Just reopening the GOTOMYPC thread.
Hopefully somebody has successfully tried the following and can write their thought (please remember to speak slowly:confused: )
- all my actinic is on the desktop pc at work, so if I purchased GOTOMYPC then I could access the work pc from my laptop at home and make changes to products/prices etc. The pc at work will have all the new information on it?
- could GOTOMYPC also be used as a reliable means of backing up my data, as everything on my work pc would be copied onto my home laptop?
Hope you get the gist of what i'm asking..........

Essentially this is what we do. We do a snapshot at work every night. Then, using PC Anywhere, I copy the snapshot from work PC to home PC, import the snapshot to Actinic on the home PC, add all the products and do all the tinkering I need, then create a new snapshot on the home PC, transfer that to the work PC and import to Actinic on the work PC all ready for my staff the next morning (or that is the theory). Sometimes though there are not many changes needed or a customer needs a product adding (common!) so I connect from home to the work PC via PC Anywhere and do the necessary on the work PC from home.
Still not got my laptop though, tis on my Christmas list:)
