Georgia not a recognised state?

I downloaded an order from a customer in the United states. When i viewed the order and viewed the customer tab, the delivery contact, location menu had "Georgia" selected (matching the Invoice contact details). However, when I attempted to move out of the customer tab, or close the order, I only get the message "The state entered is not a recognised state for this country, please select a valid state".
I managed to get out of this by picking a different state (Florida), but the address label is now incorrect.
Any ideas how I can fix this (without resorting to the correction fluid). My site is built on v.6.13

Thanks for that Jo. I did search the knowledge base before posting, but not the forum. I will follow the advice and remove the (former Soviet) country Georgia from my machine.
