Hi Chris

What is the actual problem? I have a couple of V6 up on Fasthosts with no probs as well as 3,4 & 5's.

I presume in Path to cgi-bin you have the domain in front of htdocs? ie /british-outdoors.com/htdocs/cgi-bin

FTPPATHFROMCGITOCATALOG should be /british-outdoors.com/htdocs/acatalog

Path to Perl should be /usr/bin/perl

hope this helps.

Drew

Drew

Sorry I had a weeks worth of problems getting V6 to run on Fasthosts and eventualy got it to run with help from Actinic with the settings above.

I sent then in to assist others who may have a problem.

Maybe more than one way to skin a cat

Thanks

Chris;)

Well ive stuck at it and played with settings for about 2 hours now.

Cannot get the FTP upload to work at all, keeps telling me the path to my CGI is incorrect. I think i should know where the path to my own cgi is.

tried this on my own dev server on my network and my dedicated server at telehouse. Both run Free BSD 4.5 and Apache.

Comment: Utter CRAP!!!!

In my opinion things like this should not be this hard.

Somebody please write a descent reply on this thread expaining how this is achieved.

Questions:
Does the host need to have something special enabled?
Should this work on most hosts?
Whats all this searching for the cgi-bin all about.

This is the 3rd e-commerce package i have tried. 3 and all have annoying problems but at least i can use the forums on this package.

Its a shame cause it was starting to look like a resonable system.

Oh well i will wait to see if it get a reply.

Regards,
Tony Brock

Are you on Fasthost or another company

If Fasthost it took many phone calls to get permissions changed when I first logged on

Do you have any different settings to that shown above

With Fasthost your FTP address is not exactly the same as your web address they put a numeral after the name and before the .com.

Hope this helps

Hi Tony

Afraid I can't help you with anything other than set up on Fasthosts which is pretty easy.

A few general comments which may help however:

Make sure your server is set up to run scripts.

Rather than use the Network set up wizard, go to Advanced; Network Set Up.

Go into your site through a standard FTP - you can then see if the folder 'acatalog' has been created and whether the cgi-bin is in the right place. If you go into the cgi-bin you can then read off the address from your FTP program and put it into the relevant box in Network Set up. Same again for Path to Acatalog from CGI-Bin.

This probably isn't much help but let me know.

Have to say in favour of Actinic that it is about the best available. Once installed it works very well.

Good Luck
