Has anyone got any good answers to the never ending one -

"Well it used to work so why doesn't it now?"

I need cheering up on a Friday afternoon...

and a few clients to respond to with this type of question

There's only one answer - "Well what's changed?"

e.g.
what have you installed?
what's happened since it last worked etc.

The usual onswer you then get is " well nothing except I just..."

"It was actually not working properly before - now you have Firefox you can see how it should be working .... give me £500.00 and I will uninstall Firefox to make it work again"

"how many pints did you have at lunch?"

"you thought FDISK was a frisbee?"

Had it been earlier on when I noticed this I could have pointed out that it is sunny and windy outside! It isn't now though, it is just dark and cold.

The only answer to that question has to be 'so what have you changed' but what you really want to say is 'so how did you break it'.

Actually I think that in the past I have suggested leaving it for a day or two to see if it mends itself - and have been rather suprised at the success rate.
