we have shipping calculation setup will fully automatic calculation, there is no need for customers to change the class selection

however when other classes are available actinic catalog still shows the selection box on the checkout page

is there a hack for the shipping template to remove the selection box, leaving the lowest as the only shipping option?

Remove the classes of shipping in the business settings / options / shipping

I think your issue is that you want only the cheapest to appear - rather than a drop-down list with the cheapest as default.

No great ideas on this one I'm afraid, I have not been able to come up with a workaround.

I will add it to the wish list.
