View Full Version : What Now!? Server Version=7 FBIA, Client Version=7 FJBA

My hard drive crashed. Fortunately, I'm a backup fanatic. The original downloaded version in my laptop was 7.0.3. The CD I was sent is 7.0.5.
I installed from the CD to the new hard drive. I then deleted the sample
site, pulled in my Site1 folder and did a complete refresh. No problem!
To my own personal amazement, everything worked.
Then I tried an incremental update. After the 'file merge complete' message, I got this:
The server scripts are incompatible with this version of Actinic. Refresh the web site.
If this error persists, copy the perl scripts from the original subdirectory and try again.
Server version = "7 FBIA", Client Version = "7 FJBA"
Not much need in refreshing again as that's the first thing I did after installing the later version from the CD. Besides, because of the size of the data base it takes three hours on a good day.
What perl scripts? What and where is the original subdirectory? Copy them and then do what with them? Does this happen everytime one upgrades to a newer version?
I'm lost.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

You answered the question yourself - you are running v7.0.3 and the site / snapshot is v7.0.5 - both PC and server need to be running the same version - download and intall the v7.0.5 patch

It's the opposite isn't it? My snapshot would be 7.03 since it was created from the previous version. I'm running 7.05 because that's the version on the CD.
I don't understand how the patch is going to help. The CD already contains the patch doesn't it?

Hi there
Go to "Help | Troubleshooting | Website Purge and Refresh", make sure both boxes are ticked, and then click on "Delete and Refresh". This should sort out your problem.

Charles,
Have you tried a website purge and refresh from the Help|Troubleshooting menu. Make sure you select the options to delete Perl files and .cat/.fil.

Although using the upgraded release should work, Actinic also make all previous releases available for download, so you could always install the old version and matching snapshot.

I shall try the purge and refresh so I can keep 7.05. I looked for an answer to this by searching and reading previous posts. I did see a reference about downloading older versions and wanted to try it, but the only download pages I could find were for the trial version and the patch.
For future reference, where is the page for previous version downloads?

It can be found in http://support.actinic.com/versions/

Okay, so I went for the purge and refresh, making sure to tick both boxes. The process began. When it reached Purging Files I got a message about a .fil file for which write permission was locked and I would have to delete the given file manually. So I opened my file manager on the server, searched for and found the file and deleted it manually. I had to do this for every .fil file the program wanted purged. Then began the .cat files. Same thing. I searched for and manually deleted .cat files until I reached a point beyond absurdity. I stopped after one bar appeared on the Purging Files progress window.
As of this writing, I'm going to reinstall 7.0.3, drag in Site1, refresh, then try an incremental update and hope for the best. Since I've deleted all those files, I have no idea what's going to happen. I don't know enough to know if the refresh will replace them.
If I can get this to work does it mean I'm stuck with 7.0.3 because my Site1 seems to be incompatible with a higher version? If anyone has anymore input on this matter, I'm all ears.

Charles

As you will by now have a mixed set of files on your server, it could be worth while considering using ftp to delete all files on your server and then when you have v7.3 reinstalled and running update to v7.5
If you do delete the files you will probably loose any orders that have not been downloaded, but someone better informed may be able to tell you how to avoide this
Best of luck

Then you should be able to do the purge and refresh.

My site is not officially online yet. I won't lose any orders. Trying to selectively not delete some files would be difficult, I think, due to the fact that there are almost 7,000 files in my acatalog folder. Deleting files manually, I learned earlier this evening, is a very slow process.
I'm due to change domain hosts very soon due to a speed issue with my current host. The server is shared and crowded. I will have to generate the site on a new server, so maybe the new beginning will rectify the situation. I'm still concerned and undecided about trying 7.0.5 again. Additionally, Actinic is now crashing during refresh. There are a lot of time outs. The problem may be from the high speed access line from my cable company. There's been a lot of noise on the line lately and the connection is briefly interrupted on a frequent basis. With all these variables involved it may take a bit to sort this whole thing out.
I may give it one more whack after some rest. Am I correct in doing the following before attempting to regenerate the site with the current host:
Delete the acatalog folder
Delete the index.html file
Delete all in CGIBin, except Filemanager.cgi, Global.dat and PHP.dat.

If you don't need a fix given in 7.0.4 and 7.0.5 stay with 7.0.3. There has been many threads with further issues when upgrading to 7.0.5 - especially shipping.

Back online. Ruled out the high speed access as the culprit by trying to upload via phone line. Actinic crashed again. I finally rented a PC with
power to spare and got version 7.0.3 uploaded again, but only after deleting everything on the server. Something must not be right with my laptop since the new hard drive.
I wanted the patch because of the fix regarding duplicate products pricing.
My 4,000 item numbers are increased to 7,500 when duplicates are
included. One inkjet cartridge can go in up to forty machines. I can always
search the item numbers with duplicates online and visually scan the prices.
I've had enough of upgrades for awhile and now I'm not so sure about
purge and refresh.
I learned a lot on this one. Thanks for all the suggestions.
