where to host additional pages

Hello,

I am adding "information pages" to my site - links etc that will be of interest to my customers. Is it better to host these as additional files within Actinic, or outside Actinic, or doesn't it make any difference? I am thinking of the possible effect on search engine ratings.
An example is
http://www.guidepost.uk.com/walkingireland.html
vs.
http://www.guidepost.uk.com/shop/acatalog/walkingireland.html

If the pages are maintained outside of Actinic some school of thought for SEO seems to point towards not burying the URL too deep into the site - although it can still be found with good links and navigation if you do but possibly holds less weight as in theory pages "higher up" should be more important. Grey area.
