Having recently 'set up shop/ with Express, I have discovereda couple of things that could maybe improve Express without perhaps costing Actinic much?
First, a hit counter. Im no expert but i understand this software is cheaply or freely available.
Secondly, it seems you cannot opt to delay taking the payment until you despatch the goods.
It seems that the option presented to customers wishing to pay by credit card is 'Protx Form'
Maybe Ive missed somethinghere, but this may not mean much to some people
By the way, the support people are charming, but dont seem to know a lot about Express. :)

Bonnie,
If you want to delay taking payment then you need to get the credit card details yurself (credit card details captured for later processing) rather than through Protx and just put the card through your EPDQ machine after you despatches the goods.
If you want to change 'Protx Form' to just Protx, then you can do this through your merchant interface, if you edit that particular payment method.
With regards to the hit-counter, I will add this to the wish list for you.
Kind regards,
jont

Hi Bonnie
Just curious as to why you would want a hit counter.

Some of us have had lives too! I just want something to tell me how many people have looked at the site, seems a reasonable basic piece of information to collect if you are trying to sell things. No doubt there is a modern way of doing it that my poor old fashioned self is not aware of. If someone could take pity on a poor old woman and tell me about it that would be very kind.
As for the capacity to delay taking the money until you despatch the goods, this is actually a condition of my Streamline merchant account if I read the small print. I know I can take the details myself, but one of the nice things to offer people is the security of not giving their credit card details to a stranger over the net. Apparently no Actinic product enables this, so it is a bit of a blow.:)

Normally your webhost provides site stats which gives you this info
the capacity to delay taking the money until you despatch the goods,
this is something you should be looking at your payment provider for, some will allow you to hold the payment for 5 days before processing it

I thought this too, so went to Protx, oneof the few providers available for Express, and yes they can do this but it requires some editing, when I asked Express support they said no Actinic products had the right gui to set up deferred payment. Is there anyone out there with Express who has deferred payment set up with Protx?

Not deferred, but pre-authorised. Deferred does expire within a fairly short time. Pre- authorised is the persistent one where you can bill after an extended period and repeatedly. I am using this for the marble and granite products which are made to order (partly because shipping cost is not known till we get the finished packed weight, partly because it takes time to cut and manufacture the pieces.)

Thanks Bill. It would have been nice if someone in support could have been a bit more proactively helpful.
