In a real panic - no technical knowledge - I am getting the following message when trying to donwload orders (no changes in host or settings at all in last 2 years):

Actinic received an request forbidden error from the web server. The server is not properly configured to allow Actinic to run CGI scripts from the cgi-bin. Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration.

Can anyone tell me what this means or what I ahve to do to get it running again?

The website itself opens the front page but when trying to click through pulls up this message:

Access Denied
You are not allowed to see the page.
If you have any queries about this error, please e-mail webmaster@this.domain.

Please can someone help with this as Actinic have not responded in 48 hours and my web host has not answered the phone for the last 90 minutes!!!

I am seeing the same error message also. Probably a server issue - hence the lack of response from the hosts.

The actual pages are still there (accessible by entering the direct url to the page name) just not accessible via the cgi-bin. Try connecting to the server via FTP and check the permissions on the cgi-bin are still 755

While you are up there, add an empty index.html page to your /acatalog/ folder.

I was able to reach the internal pages and confirm jont's observations, all the files are there, and all the non-cgi links on the shop page work. Add to Cat, View basket, Side Navigation - anything that uses cgi is broken.

Thanks both of you - at least I know it's not something my 10 year old has spilt inot the computer!

I'll contact the host tomorrow (NamesCo) although the message on their system says all is running 100%.

If I get nowhere, I may ask for some more advice from the Community as you all repsond far quicker than Actinic or the ISPs.

Your site appears to be working OK now. I assume therefore it was a server issue that they were busy fixing?

It seems that some visitors to my website may not be able to navigate the site, either by clicking on images on the homepage (e.g. "Basket of the Week"), or by using the left hand side links, and are getting the same Access Denied message referred to above. It is not affecting all customers as some are placing orders, but an acquaintance who has visited the website for the first time recently can't navigate at all as every link leads to an Access Denied message. I am obviously concerned that it may affect many more visitors that I am not aware of. I also use Namesco so the message received is identical to that shown above. Could this be a problem with the server/cgi-bin even though it doesn't affect all visitors, or is it more likely to be a problem within Actinic?

Tracy,

Checking your site and cannot replicate the problem. Have you had a look at your server or error logs for the time around when your acquaintance was not able to access the site. These could shed some light on what could have caused the error, perhaps a very busy server or a temporary glitch.
