Any comments on the nesting of the header tags in the default Exec theme .. for example product name and product price are both set to <h3> ... not the greatest for SEO / W3C compliance

I can see your point. Any suggestions for improvement?

The product layout would improve greatly by:

1. removing the <h3> around the price

2. <div class"n"> tagging ProductDescription by default to allow easier CSS styling

top marks btw in removing the ProductName from inside ProductAnchor link to prevent the mouseover effects in Firefox

As you can probably tell I am getting much happier with the design and layout side of v8 now :D

Just looking at best seller and it only has an H1 for the section header and nothing for the product title. As this is a pretty popular template for V7 users it could do with having some H2 and H3 tags to help with SEO.

I've raised a bug to look at this. Hopefully it will be fixed in time for release.

No - this won't be done for the first production version. We just want to do it right rather than cobble something together. Also, it's simple enough for people to change it themselves.
