Search by manufacturer

If you look at http://www.directcosmetics.com/ you will see that it has three search options: one to search by manufacturer, one to search by product range and one normal search field.

Is this functionality possible with V8 or does it just have the usual search field?

This functionality is possible with v7 with a little (OK, a lot of) work. It will be easier to produce in v8 where you have much more control over the entire site content.

Note - the first two boxes are not freetext search fields, they are pre-populated dropdown lists.

I guess the question is whether this will work if the products are grouped by product type. In other words, if the products are grouped into lipsticks, eyeliners, mascara and so on and no static html brand page exists, will it still be possible to use a pre-populated drop-down box to find products by a brand name or manufacturer?

The trick is to use 'Searchable Properties' to create an alternative navigation system to the standard section navigation. I talk about how to do this in http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?p=116089&posted=1#post116089
