View Full Version : Using my ISP's Shared SSL certificate

Hi,
My ISP has provided me with a cost effective way to access my site using a shared SSL certificate.
They have given me the URL
https://ispdomain.co.uk/~mydomain.co.uk
which allows me to see the site
www.mydomain.co.uk but using https instead.
As I know that Actinic Catalog v6 can have SSL on only the checkout stages this seems like a good way of using this security feature.
So the question is ...
How do I configure actinic to use SSL using the address above?
Please say it can be so!
Alex
Hi Alex
There are two main requirements to run Actinic with SSL on the checkout pages only:
- a secure URL to the insecure acatalog directory
- a path from the secure cgi-bin to the insecure acatalog directory
You have the first one all set up, so I would find out from your web host where the secure cgi-bin is located and if it has a path to the acatalog directory.
Once this is confirmed and you know what the setup is, you can configure the settings using the wizard at Web | Configure Web Site Details or post a query at www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm

It seems to me that this Shared SSL address shows and uses exactly the same files and paths as the main site.

I have an answer from support which I will try later and if it works then I will post it up for all to see...

Ok I have got an answer from support and it is really simple.
If you have got a shared SSL from your ISP for your domain then you need to ask them for the https url to your domain.
Once you have this then select "select standard SSL" under 'configure' in Business settings/payment and security (not shared SSL as this is a service provided by Actinic - confusing... it was for me!) and set the SSL to checkout only.
Then when you go back to the network settings a new tab called 'SSL' has magically appeared.
Change the catalog url to
https://url_supplied_by_isp/acatalog/
and the cgi url to
https://url_supplied_by_isp/cgi-bin/ (or whatever your cgi bin is)
Upload and it should all work.
You will get security popups from your browser when you change between http and https sections of the site but I don't think you can do anything about that... (if you can please post a workaround)
And bingo one easy way to get SSL on your checkout only
I will probably receive a visit from Actinic's sales team now who will want a 'word' with me about their shared ssl sales...
