Stand alone demo

I have tried to set up a test site following the instructions in the Advanced User Guide. However, despite of a succesful installation of Apache, Perl and War-FTP, I cannot make it work.
This has been discussed in an earlier thread, where c:\Apache2\htdocs\acatalog was introduces, which is not mentionned at all in the Advanced User Guide. I therefore assume that the description in the AUG is presently incomplete.
Is it possible to get screen shots of the permission set-up for the needed directories?

Help! If you know what the permissions for war ftp should be then please tell.

I have tried every combination I can imagine. I upload ok to localhost, but every 20 files or so get 'setting file permissions' and a long pause, then a message box regarding permissions.

This doesn't make the upload fall over but causes a lot of delay. As I wanted the demo for testing and development, I need speedy upload, so this is causing me to pull my hair out.

Any help or a link to previous posting etc. appreciated,

Hi Nadeem,

My problem is that I have downloaded a newer version of Warftp(1.70/80 series), can't seem to get the version quoted in the Actinic Manual. The settings are different than shown in previous versions, notably there is no 'root' or 'home' checkbox. Please see attached screenshot for how I have my settings. It is possible to set a file access as 'root' or 'home' by right-clicking on the file and selecting the menu item 'attributes', but root and home seem to cancel each other out.

I have also just tried deleting the 'acatalog' folder from htdocs and creating a new one, then refreshed the site and am still having the same permissions message.

If anyone using this new warftp knows how to set the permissions, I would be extremely grateful.

I spent many a frustrating hour ignoring the AUG, believing WAR-FTPD 1.7 would give me the edge when setting up a stand-alone.

I probably have that gene which overrides and dictates - I must have the latest version! It constantly fights the pragmatism needed to stick with good ol' reliable, not to mention 'follow the instructions'!

So, for those of you about to throw your monitor out of the window, only use WAR-FTPD 1.65, it works great, don't waste effort on anything else!:cool:

PS. Best remove 1.7 from the system altogether, otherwise there will come a time when 1.7 loads up and you'll be struggling again.

I have indeed downloaded the earlier version and it works fine now. I was always of the opinion that the newer version of any program must be better (and probably is for other purposes), but after banging head against the wall for several days I took advice and tried 1.65. All is well and the bruises are healing.
