Navigation buttons

I am trying to find a way to remove one of the navigation buttons from the main page and the catalogue pages,(the search button) I cant find which template to edit and what to do , also if I reduce the size of the navigation buttons will the rest of the page just "shuffle up" to the new buttons or do I have to reduce something else, oh and I still have a a separator bar which I cant get rid of , I have tried all the obvious places like "primary" and header" but cant find where it is hidden

to remove the search button you will have to hard code the NavigationBar.

is to go design>options>navigation and remove the description for the search and remove the two images associated with it...
