hello,

i'm in the process of evaluating actinic, i've stuck a test site up at netfirms (good free cgi enabled host).

Question: when clicking on any of the functions requiring a bit of script, although the browser calls it, and it's there, but i keep getting taken to a blank page. it's the same with thr order button in the catalogue or the checkout button in the nav.

very puzzled, any pointers?

thanx in advance

Ben

Hi Phil

This could be down to a number of things to do with how the cgi is set up. What result do you get when you test the network settings? What is the site URL?

Ben

ok, so things work great till ordering.

the browser looks for the .pl file, finds it, and then gives me a blank page with the/cgi-bin/ca0000001.pl as the url.

the source is as follows (ignore the banner bit, karma for free hosting of the test site):

<HTML><TITLE>Actinic</TITLE><BODY><center>
<table height=0 width=596 border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0>
<tr>

<td valign="top">
<a href="http://www.netfirms.com"><img border="0" src="/nf-images/webhostingbanner.gif"></a>&nbsp;</td>
</td>

<td align=

and thats it!...no header or anything.

also, i have the images in a seperate folder, as there will be hundreds, but although they preview in the test, they don't on the site.

Any pointers anyone????

src="/nf-images/webhostingbanner.gif"

What is the actual name of the banner gif.

Is it banner.gif, and are you running norton

i believe that the neame is webhostingbanner.gif, although it's script that netfirms lob at the top of each page.

and i am not running norton.

any clues?

thanks to a couple of private chats with Pinbrook, i've got a fair bit further, the man's a star!!

anyway, another angle, we use dcms email at work via an open relay at btconnect.

when i test the settings it tells me i have an invalid smtp server and that it cannot upload.

is this a problem with actinic or our set-up...can actinic use dcms or does it require smtp only to work?

ta!

BT dont support the e-mail functions required by actinic

does that mean that a machine with actinic connecting via BT can't download orders as well?

i hope not because convincing the MD we need to change isp is probably more difficult thatn building it from scratch myself!! which would be a nightmare!

As far as I know it's only the e-mail that does not work although I remember users having problems with BT hosting due to the lack of being able to change permisssions.

Upload the test store and try it out.
