Hi

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction - i've searched the forum and read the user guides but I can't find the bit I think I'm looking for.

Each product on our site has a sub section and then a product. I am in the process of tidying up all the page names as many have copy_of_copy etc in them and I noticed the field page title underneath the page name field. But I can find any reference to it that tells me what I should use it for or what I should put in it.

Can anyone give me an indication of what I need to put in them if anything and what they are used for - or direct me to where I might find out.

Thanks in advance

D

Its the text that will be shown in the title bar of the browser (and the tab titled in a tabbed browser) when that page is displayed. It has been widely said on this forum that you ought to try and keep the titles unique, especially if you have duplicated products - its better for page indexing. You can do this by incorporating the overall section name as well as the product name in the title. Its usual to put the shop name in as well.

Thanks for that - looking at the live site activic displays something even when you don't type anything in - therefore assume I only need to put things in for duplicates of if I don't like what actinic puts in.

Much appreciate. D

I only need to put things in for duplicates of if I don't like what actinic puts in Title tags are vital to your ranking on Google and what goes in them should be given great thought. There are lots of threads on this subject if you want more info.

Thanks. I have read loads of threads on SEO but was confused as to what page title that talked about - I thought that related to the page name .html field that is displayed in the browser but now you have made it clearer I will read it through again and perhaps this time understand!:o

Life was so much easier when you worked for a big corporation with an IT dept that you could just give the problem too - but def. not so much fun !!

Thanks again D
