Adding products

I don't understand the maths behind adding products. If I purchase an item that costs £5.00 and sell it at £10.00 the POR and the lines in green and yellow don't make sense. Can anyone explain this to me? What if you aren't VAT registered does this make a difference when it comes to sales tax?

We`are currently loading our shop into the software and I am very much a beginner so this might be wrong

but ....there is a little box with a drop down menu that allows you to apply the relevant tax, IE @17.5%, zero, exempt etc - the default is on ours set to standard VAT rate, so if you are not vat registered then I would of thought you either select "zero" each time or no doubt there is a way to change the default value.

As for the yellow and green cells, they are a pain in the XXXX on ours as they constantly flicker:(
