Did have some problems originally and used Norman's patch, then found that it worked OK anyway.

Hi Howard,
Sorry to bother you again. We are using Actinic V4. I know it's bit outdated and need to get V6. We are currently hosting our own websites and trying to transfer onto Oneandone's webserver. I entered the network settings as you mentioned and clicked on Test but I am still getting the following error.
A connection with the server could not established.
The test script failed to execute on the web server. The error could be caused by several things. Check the path to the perl shell, the CGI Script Extension, the path to CGI-BIN, and the CGI-BIN URL. This error could occur if your website is out of disk space or your web server is not configured to accept POSTs to CGI Scripts.
Any ideas to rectify this problem.

Hmmm. As the error message seems to indicate, there are a number of factors that could be causing an issue with the site.
You could track down a file called Mail2hst.txt in your 'Actinic Ecommerce v4' folder which contains a load of text you can copy into an email and send to your web host. Hopefully, your web host's answers will give you the right settings.
Alternatively, register an email support question at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm and the email support team can have a look at your site for you.

I'm having similar problems. We have just switched to a 1&1 root server.
When configuring the website details - Actinic tries unsuccessfully to guess the perl installation location and requests that it should be entered manually.
I think I've located the perl folder and files /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0 but when I try to enter the path Actinic is gives an error unable to locate perl installation.
1&1 don't give software support for root servers and I'm feeling a bit stuck. Does anyone have any experience of 1&1 root servers?

Does /usr/bin/perl not work then?
Hmmm. I'd be surprised if 1&1 are unable to tell you the path to the Perl shell on your server. It is hardly software support - any formmail script etc you could write would need this information.

It seems to be working now. The problem was with our Proxy Server. It wouldn't allow us to connect to the Oneandone's webserver for some reason. I published the settings using the dial-up connection and they worked with Actinic Catalog V6. They didn't work with Actinic Catalog V4.
Another question for you Cdicken? Hope you help me. We are currently in the process of migrating from NT4 domain to 2000 domain. Along with that we will be running ISA server. With ISA I don't want to have the same problem as the Proxy Server.
When I try to upgrade the website or retrieve orders what changes do I need to make on the ISA server so I could connect to the Oneandone's webserver without any difficulties?

One of the (many) issues the Actinic Support team have hit with regards to incorrectly set up ISA servers, is with the ISA server not transmitting FTP commands correctly.
There is a knowledge base article HERE (http://knowledge.actinic.com/users/kadmin/acatalog/Knowledge_Base_Initial_Network_Configuration_118.html#aCD220) that should help with that.
Apart from that, as long as Internet Explorer can connect from your PC, then Actinic should be able to as well.

Thank you very much for your regular replies. Really appreciate it.
Currently I am having a problem testing the network settings with oneandone web server using dial-up connection. It doesn't even connect to the web server using FTP.
Does Actinic rely on Proxy Server? I spoke to the ISP and they said they don't have proxy server. But the thing is I managed to test the settings earlier and they are not working now. Very confused.
I can't use the LAN as we use proxy server and it doesn't let me connect at all.
Please help as the customers have already started purchasing products from our website and I need to retrieve orders.

I can't use the LAN as we use proxy server and it doesn't let me connect at all. You can enter the details of your proxy servers in 'Advanced | Network Setup' ('Proxy' button). If you set Actinic to 'Default (Windows Settings)' for the proxy server then it will use whatever Internet Explorer uses to connect to the Internet.
You might also want to check that Internet Explorer is not set to 'Work Offline' (see the 'File' menu in IE).
Orders are downloaded via HTTP rather than FTP so you should be able to download orders even if you have not currently got an FTP connection to your web server.

In addition, if you want to see if IE can connect to your server via FTP, then open an Internet Explorer window and type the following:(substituting the text below for your own data).
ftp://username:password@www.domain.com
If Internet Explorer can connect via FTP then you should just be able to set Actinic to 'Default (Windows Settings)' for your FTP proxy settings.
