just uploaded a splash screen to a site i have that is doing nothing at the moment,(hosted by compila)

a could view the site by entering url: www.myactinic.co.uk, so it is there on the server.
a couple of weeks ago i took another domain and hosting with them www.tungstenblades.co.uk, built site uploaded fine up and running..

like i said when i just uploaded splash screen ftp.myactinic and called the file index.html it has overwriten tungstenblades.

im confused i thought i had seperate packages thats what i paid for, the control pannel details they sent with each package both now send me to tungstenblades panel.

anyone shed any light on what may be happening here, i dont expect an answer from support for a couple of days yet...

Not sure i can quite grasp what you are asking, but if i have it correct, you thought you had 2 domains and have just been trying some things on a spare one you had. In trying this, you have managed to change your main site somehow. In addition the details that have been sent to you for each domain are the same?

My first port of call would be to confirm whether i have purchased a new domain and not a "sub" domain.

Secondly i would confirm i haven't somehow mixed up ftp details or indeed that the company themselves haven't.

Thirdly ftp into the site using the details you have and find out where it takes you to ftp.myactinic.co.uk does not have to take you to myactinic.co.uk, it can just as easily take you to tungstenblades.co.uk, especially if you have some form of a reseller account.

network settings in both sites i have designed differ only by domain name, and ftp.address respectively.
yet on upload the tungsten blades site is always the one to be overwritten.
www.myactinic.co.uk is there in its own write can be viewed an i cant see any trace of it in the server files that i can gain access to they show tungstenblades.
i paid for both seperately same price both times,

as i think may be the case.
they set me up with one control pannel and one ftp.access, how can i have more than one index file on the same server location..

ftp.myactinic.co.uk can easily go to the same place as ftp.tungstenblades.co.uk, its the user name and passwords that count. If you have those 2 ftp addresses, yet they use the same username and password, what you have seen can certainly happen.

Are the user names and paswords the same? If so, i would suggest that either you haven't bought what you thought you had OR the company in question has somehow mixed up the settings in the email they have sent you.

the user names and passwords are the same for both, so they have cocked up.

Both myactinic.co.uk and tungstenblades.co.uk are registered to Joseph Gary Simpson, they both have the same named servers and they are both with IPS tag Compila.

If you have paid for them separately and both amounts are the same, i would suggest that you have been sent the incorrect ftp username and password for the spare domain.

Have you purchased a reseller account or through a reseller?

no reseller account, and purchaced directly from compila.

i did ask them before i bought the second package what would be the best way and this was there reply:

Dear Mr Simpson,

Thank you very much for your enquiry.

Please go to www.compila.com and follow the same steps as you followed with your earlier domain. During the order process it will ask you to login with your current customer account and you do not have to register again.

This way all your hosting, domains and orders will be kept with single customer account.

Definitely sounds like a cockup with their system or maybe a slight oversight or incorrect selection on your side. Either way if two different sites send an index.html file to the same place, the site that sent it last will have it's home page live on the web and the other one will have disappeared into the ether.

If you are going to have multiple domains with one company, it is far better to have them sitting within one account (as they suggested) as there is only one user name and password to remember and its a central place to locate your sites.

This does of course rely on their system being setup to cater for it, which is currently in doubt somewhat. Let us know what happens.

it was a user name and password issue, even though i was specifying the ftp.address, the user name and password for each domain would override this.
the origonal passwords for the first site had been changed and they had not informed me of this until i contacted them yesterday.

this has made me want to find out how my server actually works and i will be looking at this, it certanly made and still makes little sense to me. at least im up now. cheers..
