We originally had our site created for us many years ago, however I have decided to revamp it by using one of the pre-defined themes in Actinic. It now looks much better however when I attempt to upload it it stops when it gets to 'Checking search Indices'. Any ideas?

Try compacting the database and refreshing the site.

Try applying the theme again, compacting, close actinic and reopen.

Nice pictures

Hmmm indeed. I wonder if the upgrade has partly failed. Try upgrading the old site again.

Ignore that - Im talking rubbish. Too busy upgrading sites at the moment and my brain is going

Go back to the old site snapshot and import it. Then upload to check it is working ok.

Apply the new theme again

Still working this time of night! You must be into IT, been there, got the T-Shirt. However I will ignore the last bit as I haven't upgraded. I think it's time you opened a nice bottle of Merlot!!

Your site is pretty big - if you want to pop a snapshot on a CD in the post to me I will check it out for you and see if I spot anything.

Hi Again

Just tried importing the snapshot. Uploaded OK. Re-applied the theme and it wont upload. Would there be some underlying code, that the person who originally generated the site used, that is causing the problem?

Hi

That would be very kind. Silly question but do you want the snapshot of the modified site or the original?

Give me both

Hi

Dont know if this helps but I have just tried to generate a snapshot of the modified site and have received the following error -

FATAL ERRORS
(File SnapshotWizard.cpp, Line 816) - Archive error 5 - The compression operation failed
Library error - Can not open file C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Sites\Site1\ActinicCatalog.mdb ! has been caught.

Does this make any sense!

Its not your day is it:D This means that you have a possible database error - this may be what is causing the upload to fail.

Just send the original site. keep trying the compress database option. You could also try copying across the old database manually and see if that fixes it.

Not sure where the database error is, if when I restore from the last snapshot then it uploads fine, however if I then apply a theme to the site it suddenly becomes corrupt.
I can send you the original snapshot no probs, however you mentioned copying the database across manually. Can you explain how I do this please.

By the way. Do you have an ftp site to save me posting the disk?

Just send the original snapshot. If you need to ask about the database option then I dont suggest you attempt it as it can go wrong.

Do you have an ftp site to save me posting the disk No - even if I did I would not be able to check it any quicker.

C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Sites\Site1\ActinicCatalog.mdb ! has been caught.
This means that you have a possible database error
Ermmm - No - it means that when the compression (zip) routine tried to copy the Access database, the database returned a 'locked and in use' response. All that is needed is to close and reopen Actinic and then redo the snapshot export.

When you go to View | Search Settings - what boxes are ticked?

Bill

I have the following search settings checked:

*Display Options*
Allow Searching by Sections.
Allow Searching by Price Bands.

*Indexing Options*
Index Products.
Index Product Duplicates
Index Extended Product Info
Add all Parent Section Contents to Product Text when Indexing.

Does this help!

The index duplicates and add parent section options make the index file that has to be built on your PC and then uploaded, potentially quite large if you have a lot of products and/or a deep section path.

I would suggest going to Housekeeping, and first purging content to actually clear away and 'marked for deletion' data and then select Compact databases, tick both boxes. After getting the success message start with index products only and see how that gets on. Add the other indexing options one at a time on successive uploads, and see if one in particular is breaking the site.
