View Full Version : Stock Levels Using Attributes And Choices

Hi,

this may sound a daft question but.....

If I have lets say a product with 10 items each in 5 colours (50 in total) and I want to just have one product listed but with a drop down list of the colours, how do I set this up to work.

ie... If someone buys 3 x orange and 1 x red and 2 x black, how does actinic reduce the stock levels of each colour rather than 6 items off the total?

Sorry if this does not make sense but struggling to put it into writing!!

Any one help? I did find one article sort of like this but It did not find it very easy to understand.

Sorry, but I got confused by the question. Do you mean a product that comes in 10 different sizes and 5 colours?

I was leaving this for someone else to answer, as I wasn't 100% on the facts,
but as no one else has replied, so here's my understanding:

To add a choice to a product you have to create a set of products - one for each colour. So if the product is Widgets, you'll have an overall widget product in the catalogue, and a product each for Orange Widget, Red Widget, Black Widget, etc.

Each of these can have a stock level (initially 10 of each in your example) and have stock monitoring enabled. This will take care of the actual widget stock control.

I *think* that you can disable stock monitoring on the overall widget product so you don't have to keep count of you total no. of widgets.

I operate this system, but I find it a little confusing that the invoice always shows two entries. E.g. if I sell a Red Widget I get this:

Widget Qty 1
Red Widget Qty 1

Dear acompton

If you read post http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=27591, you will see that I had a similar problem with the way the invoices dispayed componets/choices etc. With the help of a few clever people on the forum, I was able to fix this. If the above post makes sense, try it. If not, feel free to contact me direct and I will help you solve your invoices.

I was struggling to actually put it into written words but....

As an example....We have a shelf, it is available in 4 colours

I would like to be able to just have one product showing, with the option of the 4 colours.

If someone buys a red one, I need it to take a red one off the stock count of red, not 1 off the total shelf stock count.

Being a reasonable novice with Actinic I just need pushing (gently) in the right direction.

I hope that is a little clearer!!

have a look at this:
http://www.rugsandstuff.co.uk/acatalog/actinic.JPG

this is the way I have set up my items.

You need to make sure that the top level item is not stock monitored but each hidden product (ie the different colours) do get monitored.

I don't guarantee this is the best way but it now works for me.

Thanks for helping.

wilts-ebiz:
I thought I had outlined it pretty well in my description.
Have you tried setting up a colour-choice attribute? It may be a little more obvious if you do.
