View Full Version : Skipping the first checkout page

I am only going to supply products to the UK. I have removed all of the other countries from within actinic, but now on the first stage of the checkout it says "Select Shipping Destination. Country : " and then it fills in UK as the answer (as obviously it is the only one).
Now it seems a bit silly to ask the customer which country when they don't actually have any choice, and can't change the selection. How can I remove this bit of the page (preferably without changing things at html level).
Even better, as nothing useful is done on this page (no country selection and the 'separate delivery address' has been disabled), can I skip this and go straight into the next page? (if so how?)

Hi,
The only way to bypass the 'Shipping Destination' page in the checkout process is to use 'simple tax' and 'simple shipping' in the 'View | Business Settings' options.
If you are using 'advanced tax' and/or 'advanced shipping' all you can do is change the text that displays - so instead of saying 'Select shipping destination' you could have it saying just 'Shipping Destination'
Go to the 'Design' menu and select 'Text'. Click on the 'Go To' button in the bottom left corner of the screen and in the 'Phase' field type -1 and in the 'ID' field type 171 and click 'OK'. This takes you to the prompt that contains 'Select Shipping Destination'. Change it to anything you want and then update your store.
I hope this helps.

I am using simple tax, but I can't do simple shipping as I want free delivery over £50. (but again, nothing user selectable, so it's still a wasted screen...:(

I'm afraid then that there is nothing we can do. The 'country' value (whether there is only one or twenty to choose from) is passed to the next stage of the checkout as it has to work out what, if any, shipping options there are for that country.
The ability to be able to condense the checkout process has been added to the wish-list many times before to but as yet, it cannot be done.
Sorry.

aaarrrrrggggghhhhhh.... This is so annoying
But this thread is at least 5 years and 2 (or 3) versions later, so has this problem been solved yet?
I need advanced shipping as my site needs to handle VAT exemption, but there is only one country so this screen is a totally pointless waste of time.
So, has anyone figured out a v7 fix (can't the page just bounce to the next one automatically instead of waiting for a button to be pressed)?
And is this fixed in v8 or v9...? Is there something finally worth upgrading for?

John, it's really very easy. see http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=36603
ignore the first bit of discussion and go straight to post #7. All it takes is one simple script change.
