Meta Tags / Keywords

Hi, I would really like to learn more about Meta Tags / Keywords to make sure I am getting the full benefit?
1) Are they used by the main engines, Google / Yahoo etc - I see conflicting comments?
2) Under 'Display Options' I see that the 'Name of Store' is already a Keyword - should it be repeated in the Keywords / Description?
3) What is the limit on the number of words for Keywords / Description? Is the limit per site or per page within the site?
4) How many pages of a website are scanned by the engines, for example are the product pages scanned separately? Is the 'Page Name' (under 'Edit Store Contents') automatically a keyword?
5) If you change any keywords do you have to re-register with the Search Engine (Google etc) or will they pick-up the new words when they crawl your site next time.....how frequently is this?
6) In closing - how can I tell which version of Express I am running?

These are all questions that have been answered many times before so very quickly

Google - no (at the moment) others yes for ranking.

Only if it is a keyword - keywords need to reflect the content of the page

3) What is the limit on the number of words for Keywords / Description? Is the limit per site or per page within the site?

Keep it short - this will give more weight to your primary keywords.

4) How many pages of a website are scanned by the engines, for example are the product pages scanned separately? Is the 'Page Name' (under 'Edit Store Contents') automatically a keyword?

Google 3 pages deep others differ. keywords are selected by you.

I never register sites with google. They will pickup changes when they visit. Frequency depends on many factors. You will be in the sand box for many months with a new site.

6) In closing - how can I tell which version of Express I am running I dont know

Please do a search on the forum as almost every aspect of SEO and Actinic has been covered - Express is different to V7/8 so I cannot be specific on it but the general principles apply. If you need more info on SEs then a search on google will provide lots.

The version information is displayed at the bottom of all pages in the Merchant UI part of the store.
