View Full Version : Automating Product Upload Using XML and Access

Hello,

I have been developing my site for a number of months and developing workarounds.

I have created an XML file that contains products and an Access database that reads in the XML data file and outputs a CSV file suitable for uploading into Actinic, it saves heaps of time and effort and it only involves two button clicks. If you update the XMl file it will update the actinic product.

If anyone is interested in this feature please email me, obviously its not going to be free as it took a lot of effort to create but we can come to some contract arrangement.

All the best.

Sounds interesting but what is the point when I can just link direct to Access?

Hello,

No point now!, ive removed the actinic search engine replacing it with an XML and ASP.Net solution, its faster and very flexible.

Thanks,

Nick

I'm curious......

Do you still have actinic generate the .html catalog files using perl? Also you are on a windows server and how does actinic run on the windows server (200/2003?). I've heard performace to be slow on windows and I'd have to install active perl and all that.

I just created a post talking about the future of Actinic and asked if any plans for c# or vb.net to be used as an option to perl.

Thanks,
Jason

Hello Jason,

Yes we do still use Windows server, I dont use actinic to generate files anymore, just for order processing, the front end is asp.net and the backend is xml with vb.net.
Actinic together with Worldpay is excellent for taking sales orders, I still have the actinic order pages in use but everything else has been changed.

Many Thanks,

Nick
