Google Adsense

I would like to know if anyone has tried or considered using the Google Adsense on their site? This seems like a way of bringing in traffic and making some income from traffic flowing through my site at present. However, I am not sure if I wish to use a horizontal ad which would be a 'product' at no cost throughout the site or code a vertical ad in the ACT_Primary.html file. I have not been very comfortable with the Act primary file, it does tend to be picky when tinkering with it.

Any ideas, comments, suggestions, and, especially, experiences, are appreciated.
