Two add to basket pages?

How can you create a page with a list of products which have add to basket buttons, then by clicking on a "further information" link below one of the products takes you to a detailed product page which also has an add to basket button, both products having the same reference number?.

I tinkered a bit with doing this some time ago. Attached are my notes. It was so long ago that I'm not sure if this works will all Browser variants out there IE, Netscape, Opera, etc. Try it and see.

This seems to work as a popup page. Can it be done on a page using a primary template? As an example see http://www.jewellery247.co.uk/acatalog/Semi_Precious_Stone_Rings.html - products with add to baskets, plus click "view details" for more detailed page with add to basket. This is the effect I am trying to achieve, thanks.

It looks to me on first inspection that they have set each product to have a popup page, modified the popup page templates so that each popup page generated is actually a full catalog page and then modified the popup function so that is changes the browser location to the popup page.....all in all quite a clever technique!
