Time for me to laimly attempt to inject something which is amusing, interesting or far off the beaten track to bolster our community. My latest doomed to fail idea is this.
I'm sure we all have a few things in our minds which are mysteries, they have never bothered us so much to find out, but it would be nice to know or understand if posible. I had 2, however i found the answer to one, they were this anyway:
1 - Why do men have nipples?
Because all babies start as female until 6-8 weeks into the pregnancy where sex is decided.
2 - Why on occasions does an underline hover state on a multi-word link, result in spaces between the words and on other occasions it goes straight across. I have always used to counter this, but it has always perplexed me.
POST your conundrums, NOTHING actinic related and lets see if we can sort each others lifes little mysteries.

Using the cars trip computer to show the instantaneous MPG .. when I de-clutch into neutral and coast (not really officer its just a pretend tread and I am always in complete control of the vehicle) the readout displays 999.99
leehack

That would be due to the ECU not getting any signal on throttle i would expect, does it show that display when it first starts up also? I would expect it to be due to the engine or carburettor not engaged.

carburettor
Showing your age there matey :)
I expect it is due to the not wanting to display "ERROR" due to the impossible calculation .. if not enough fuel is registering on the monitor it could in theory show as a zero .. which would throw out a nasty error from the calculation and scare everyone to the nearest garage... better to show 999.99 than "ERROR". Thats always been my best theory to date.
On start up it is fine as there is no movement to add into the equation.

OOPS i buggered it up.
Q. How can a top posting member of the community completely ruin the running order of a thread with such disregard to the other posters?

what bees produce milk ?
apparantly came from Chris Moyles on radio 1 phoning around the EU countries (hotel receptionists I think) trying to see "if any of the foreigners had a sense of humour" (bit of an oxymoron there me thinks) and asking that simple question.
it transpires that only Germans thought it funny - that again is another oxymoron.
having said all that - its certainly one of lifes little conundrums and I thought I might as well give you the answer to save sleepless nights etc.
Lee. - (favourite subject) - is that bees or boobees?

My question is...
.. why can't you lick your own elbow?
leehack
12-May-2007, 01:08 PM
Because the minimum distance from your mouth to your shoulder is always shorter than the distance from your shoulder to your elbow, unless you are deformed.
People than can dislocate their shoulder could do this i would imagine.
jont
12-May-2007, 01:09 PM
Of all the things you could lick the elbow is not at the top of the list surely?

.. a Mr Whippy 99 in this weather ... what else is there on the lickability front?
fleetwood
12-May-2007, 02:53 PM
....if you are on a swing, and need to hold on with both hands, you need to carry your Mr Whippy somewhere, and the crook of your elbow would seem an ideal place from which to sneak a lick between swings - surely a case of bad design?!
meanwhile, in another part of town, the queue at the Doctors surgery increases by one, as the patient tries to explain that he only dislocated his shoulder, to see if he could lick his elbow...
you do realise, that I am supposed to be calculating the emergency route to hospital number 2, should hospital number 1 be full up, when fleetwood sprog attempts to enter this mad world..... Mrs F won't be happy!

ok...I've got one of life's conundrums...
Why is it that the 15 minute job (adding EU shipping and changing to shipping by weight) that I started at 8pm... took me til just before 11pm?
And what the hell possessed me to do it on a Sunday evening?!
Actually...that's 2 questions :p
My brain hurts!

Guess its after watching TV you felt so depressed, that the thought of actinic was better than TV
TraceyHand
14-May-2007, 03:40 PM
maybe so..actually, I confess the TV didn't even get switched on.
So something in my head decided that tackling shipping/weights would be more interesting that even looking to see what was on!
I think my brain might be broken (along with my laptop at the minute..talk about an eventful 24 hours!)
