hi Guys,
Working with Actinig 8.0.0. When I go web/to configure website details, run the wizard, enter the info, all is OK i guess, it connects, searches the root directory and comes back with the url for the cgi-bin highlighted. This moves on to perl installation, does guesses and comes back with /usr/bin/perl/ and the .pl extension. Hit continue and an error says that the test fails and the CGI script received an invalid respinse from the server. HELP!!
Hosting with Godaddy.com premium acct.

Welcome Robert.
I'm sure you have probably read this and it's links:

If it doesn't/didn't help then export and post your network settings here after removing usernames and passwords. Someone may be able to spot something wrong.

Working with Actinig 8.0.0. I suggest you upgrade to the latest version on the actinic website as your current version is very old and full of bugs which will drive you mad:D

After the guessing during perl installation, it comes back and tells me?usr/bin/perl. Click ok and it says some tests failed to comunicate to remote server. CGI script received an invalid responce from the server.
HELP!!! is it godaddy?? Their help file says that you do not have to change permissions on folders. nothing else said on the site about permissions.
I also tried update website. It uploads ok but it dont work on the web. no pistures and everything is screwed up.. Also it says Brochure Home page is being uploaded to http://valleydecoratingdepot.com/index.html. Any existing page called "index.html" will be overwritten. Please confirm that you want to upload this page. I cannot because my site home page is there.
I overwrote it and the catalog works fine( i no longer have a home page that I wanted to link out out of. I can re-upload later.
When checkout comes, I get a 500 server error as below.
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, support@supportwebsite.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
How can I have my site and the shoppingcart catalog in the main directory when they both need to be "index.html"? Tried moving the index page to acatalog folder but it screwed up everything.
TIA.
TIA!!

Change hosts and select one that works straight out of the box and has the settings already in the forum. I'm not sure the bigDaddy settings were ever finalised and confirmed as OK.

Something else is messed up as when you go from non SSL pages to SSL the URL changes from
http://valleyetc
to https://www.valley
this change is not what the networksettings tell it to do.
So number 1 thing to do is get the site working at www.valley without SSL
Change hosts and select one that works straight out of the box and has the settings already in the forum. I'm not sure the bigDaddy settings were ever finalised and confirmed as OK. However's Lee's advise is probably best as al lthe other goDaddy posts do not point to the fact that anyone has got actinicworking there yet
i'm fuming Chill! come with me to my TaiChi class at lunch time?

I will try to get the sight working without ssl first. What about the index.html issue?? can I run actinic out of my root directory?? It is interfering with my homepage index.html.
Checkout is working ok, but I cannot add items says cannot locate product reference. Someone please logon and surf through the site. I will re-upload in a few hours. Mabye someone will pick something up whils surfing through.
I uploaded the sight only by site update method. If this matters i do not know.
TIA!!!

Don't allow ACtionicto overwrite the home page, then it will all be in acatalog folder, to test just go to domain/acatalog

I tested it domain/acatalog and I got the normal index page (welcome to our site) page. I got the online catalog page. How can I fix the home buttons not to point to the root folder index.html?? all home buttons are trying to go to domain/index.html I hope I do not sound stupid, but this is way more advanced that I thought.
TIA :):)

Sounds like you need a 301 redirect from domain/index.html to domain/acatalog/index.html if i am understanding correctly. Anyone trying to go to domain/index.html will automatically be taken to domain/acatalog/index.html if you set this up.
Unless you mean that you do not want actinic to create your domain/index.html page, in which case you need to get rid of all brochure pages and then delete the little picture of a house in the content tree.

Got it working with Godaddy! Here are my settings. Used SSL on checkout and customer login only option. I can also have my website and link to the welcome page which I wanted to do by unchecking use as website homepage when home is highlighted in the content tree and going to page details!

Run the test in advanced network setup only. The configure website option under web always fails because I think there is a delay in the FTP of godaddy not allowing access to the cgi during actinics tests.
I want to thank all of you for your help!!. I am going to another forum Actinic v8 support in here to ask how to set up shipping by zip code and hot to add slaes tax by state which I cannot find or understand in the help.

are you sure you want your site to live at http://valleydecoratingdepot.com rather than http://www.valleydecoratingdepot.com
using the www is more conventional.

Both work when I type it in the explorer url box with or whithout the www. What is the difference? I am not sure what you mean.
Do I need to change the website url only in actinic or all the address IE. cgi bin url, acatalog url etc.
