I just got back from Download '07

http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/lineup/

and i can tell you, thats typically, spending 5 days in a mucky field with 100,000 peoples was well worth it.

especially Dimmu Borgir and Dragonforce. They roxxored.

whats the best band/festival anyone here has seen?

I may let you off being at a Robbie concert for that comment! ;)

Dude when they rip em out and theyre stuck right in the middle of a 40 foot square screen, the music just plays and you are otherwise entertained, although he was very good i must admit.

I also got the top of my head and forehead on one of the tv's as the bird on my shoulders went for 15 seconds of fame and wapped hers out. I remember saying to my mate, FFS typical a sheila this close to me with her baps out and i can't see them, he soon directed me to look at the screen where i nearly pissed myself laffing.

Stiff Little Fingers, Lemon Tree, Aberdeen, night before St Patricks every year since the Titanic sunk (I think).

Also saw The Clash in London, back in the day. ;)

Who'd have thought there would be another SLF fan on the Actinic forum! If only we could add tracks to our profiles, then we could give everyone an education!

Aye Dave... and grab a copy of the Song By Song book if you can...

LOL, it would have been a 90 minute adventure to find the loos from where i was. I can recall the stand swaying with the shear volume of people jumping around. The whole pitch (Old Trafford Cricket Ground btw) and the stands were rammed with what seemed like 100,000 people. Having seen that, i started to understand their need for drugs, the buzz from that kind of gig, must be so hard to replicate, it's not a surprise at all if they fall victim. I remember turning round and looking back and it was just overwhelming, sent the hairs on your neck upon end. I've never seen so many, genuinely enjoying themselves in such proximity.

The bro has it, although he conveniently forgets to bring it every time I see him! Honestly, I'll be placing a 'Suspect Device' in his house if he doesn't produce it soon!

One of my players was down this year as well as last. His fav group is Bad Brains. I think he owns about a million band t-shirts. Quite a good defender as well actually.

Not like me to be so prejudiced actually, but the avatar pic threw me. I apologise. A lesson in life indeed.

Just remembered. I really enjoyed The Undertones last year (the `new` singer is better... fact ;-) ). Biggest letdown? Primal Scream.

Best gig experiences have been Broken Social Scene and also Arcade Fire. Also Pulp in '97 was proper excellent (apart from the scouse girl shouting 'Jarvis! Jarvis!' in my ear throughout the gig).

I'm off to the Truck Festival next month for a weekend of obscure indie and organic ale. Bliss.

How's your band doing CD?Pretty good. Had a good gig on Saturday and had lots of people along (in a teeny tiny pub venue). Next step is to record an ep and starting sending that to everyone who vaguely has anything to do with music.

You can check the new website here: http://www.kidandconundrum.com/ - it's designed by (hem hem) a very good friend of mine (i.e. me).

At the risk of loosing all credibility - I have to confess I went to see Cliff Richard in JNB a couple of months ago.

My Brother in Law was desparate to go, I was the only soul polite enough to go with him.

This post will self destruct in 10 minutes

LMFAO - now that is brave, fair play.
I like Opera, been as we're airing our washing online.
I hate Jazz and Heavy Metal though.

well as we're confessing...I'm a classically trained singer

Oh..and aged 17, I went to see Vanilla Ice in concert :D

See...you all knew there was something wrong with me, didn't you?
LOL

Current tastes are still classical mostly, mixed with Evanescence and Nirvana, Def Leppard, Skid Row... I'm not a very "current" music person on the whole! (actually, I am weird lol)

omg. pwnage.

on a side note, evanescence were at download, and they sucked.

in fact, she was bottled. and a guy behind me shouted:

"i'm only here for my girlfriend, now sing bitch".

the cruelness of it all.

Right with you Lee, although i do like early Amy Winehouse stuff and thats a bit jazzy.

Now for live social suicide..long before i had taste, self respect and free will, my eldest sister, much older but not so wise, begged me to go to a concert with her in the tiny town we lived at the time and see...oh crap....Gary Glitter..:o
The up side is she bought me the tickets for Muse at Manchester 18 years later to say sorry.

Anyway Tracey - have you got anything recorded you can upload to Utube, I'm sure we'd all love to hear you sing.
Give us a tune Tracey!!!!

I was in the pub a few weeks back and the others were all talking about the really <insert appropriate word here> festivals they had lined up, had to admit that I only had a cub camp lined up (although they did apparently have a band, I missed it due to have to stay in the marquee and drink whilst my child slept), said it made me feel really old, Chris however, pointed out that even when I was younger I probably didn't go either and he was right.

The last famous person I saw live though was Paul McCartney (he was very small as I remember rightly due to being a very long way away), the band I enjoyed seeing most were the Fine Young Cannibals.

I was going to say something about seeing Tracey perform but I better not.

I've often gone to a gig to `keep someone happy` and my diverse list includes Bananarama, A-ha and Man2Man (remember 'em, Male Stripper?).

A trip with a mate to see Sinita resulted in some of my desirable record collection getting damaged by Mrs G, so better not mention that event.

Best has got to be David Bowie - only seen him twice unfortunately.

Scariest - The Stranglers - it was the first gig they did in the UK after being imprisoned in France for inciting a riot!

For pure showmanship - Barry Manillow at the London Palladium - wouldn't have ever thought about going to see him but was doing a concert for a charity worked for and got a freebee.

Sting was pretty amazing - especially when he took his shirt off:D

Kathy (who isn't a classically trained singer but is having lessons and will be making her first public performance in August  )

Best gig ever, and there have been many since, was back in the dim and distant past of 1969.

I did a school exchange with a lad from Sweden and I thought I would impress him with tickets to the Pop Proms at the Albert Hall to see The Who and Chuck Berry with Kieth Moon doing drums for CB! But lo the Stones played Hyde Park that afternoon!

Sadly missed Mick and the boys at IOW.

Still we could be looking forward to the Selsey Festival Kath :D

REM supported by Blur and I think Cranberries amonst others at the Milton Keynes Bowl 1995, and getting paid for it!! Brother in Law got me a job in the beer tent and managed to slope off after an hour or so so got to see most of the days bands.
Also got to work as security at the beer tent for Bon Jovi in 96, music was pretty garb but it being a hot day and all that there was a fair bit of exposed (female) flesh on show:D . Got a rollicking for letting the good looking lasses through ahead of the blokes.

No Kath - just call it a hunch.

After all, other than dodging grockles, how much else can there be to do in Selsey?

Alistair

13-Jun-2007, 08:41 PM
LOL Alistair - don't mention the grockles they are here but will get overrun with them once school hols start! Actually there is more to do in Selsey than most places I know - for a village/small town it's got a hell of a lot going on! Including the 3 week festival in August.
