Hi

I am a new member and have read all the answers on here so far but still have a problem. This is the first time I have used Actinic and I was really plesaed until I tried to upload site yon Monday. My host is streamline.net and i have spent 3 frustrating days in correspondence with them. Yesterday they eventually told me that I neede to switch servers to Linux. I did that and now have another problem. The error message is

GI-BIN Working Directory: "e:/sslroot/dandeliondesigns/cgi-bin"

CGI-BIN Working Directory Contents

cp000001.pl

Streamline reply is

Shell access details
Host address: ssh.dandeliondesigns.co.uk
Username: *********
Password: ********

Set shell password
Important: after changing the shell password, you will not be able to log in to your SSH for approximately 1 hour.
This makes no sense to me can anyone stop me going mad!!

Thank you so much

Deb

Streamline are telling you to change permissions on your folders.

acatlog must be 777
cgi-bin 775

they then are telling you to use shell access to remedy this, although simple ftp will do the job.

try a forum search on "file permissions" on unix - not windows

Thanks so much for your reply Jo. Looked at various bits on the forum and have made progress but 5 days later and I am still struggling. Have just discovered that Streamline have set up a separate ftp account because they insist that whole Actinic site must be on SSL server. My files upload to there but now I need to create link from my main site which I am about to do. Edited Now I find that I cannot set it up so that anyone who types in main web address will go to our actinic site because streamline have set it up on separate secure server - all advice appreciated!

However, part of the site is written in Dreamweaver and part with Actinic - could I just write whole site in Actinic. Sorry for being dense but have done some web design and have never used Actinic before so it's taking some getting used to. May well decide to go on a course if I need to use it again.

I am not being funny but I would move hosts. You do not and should not have the whole of the site on SSL. It will slow things down and can cause other issues such as search engine optimisation. Maybe someone else on Streamline can advise how they set theirs up without all being on SSL.

You can usually design the whole site inside of Actinic. There have been several threads about using different pages outside of Actinic but general consensus is to do everything inside of Actinic wherever possible as it make life much simpler.

Deb

As jont suggest move host - try the link below for an easy, very cheap and quick setup. basic package £25 for the year they will get you up and running until you decided were to put it. There are some host on here (not very far away ;) ) that specialise in actinic host for a long term plan plus many others will recommend some.

Hi

I'm a first time poster to this or any forum, so I hope I have not made any annoying newbie error like posting in the wrong place.

I've been trying for several weeks now to get my site working. The problemn is the Actinc FTP test reports that test scripts fail in my ssl cgi bin.

I can see the scripts in Windows XP network places and they open when I double click them. The properties show read and execute permissions for owner, group and all users and write permission for owner.

Here are the exported network settings:

Actinic received a server error from the web server. The CGI scripts are not executing properly on the server.

The test script failed to execute on the web server.

Any help would be much appreciated

Graham, you site seems to be working fine to me, except the ssl, i can browser, add stuff to basket, so i wont suggest turning the ssl off as this seems to be the problem. This being another ssl problem and not knowing much about the streamline, hopefully deb will post her fix, do you have access to the chmod access to you sites bins, try opening the permission up then doing a complete actinic purge and refresh, also try incrementing the script id to another number.

Sorry it's not much help

Hi Deb H

Like you, I'm sticking with Streamline for now. At least their support is quicker to reply than Pipex Webfusion. I'm having the same problem with SSL. If you can spare the time, I'd love to know how you resolved it.

Hi

Well I did finally solve the streamline.net problem myself. I moved to wisehosting!

Seems to be working now.
