I have been spending far too many hours re-rwiting the plugin code in actinic today, so I thought I'd do some creative writing. Forgive me, i'm was born into the web, so my language my be a little odd for some

Here is how i divide the demographic of this forum:

- Noobs
These are first timers, or possible more. They usually have nice easy problems that are fun to answer. They also cant resist asking people about their new fancy site.

- driveby noob
OMG! signed up for one question and then f****d off! silly noob. how on earth are we supposed to built a community with these buffoons around.

- mins
(thats 'admins' to you and me:). Those that are aloof, and control all things. We have some nice ones here. and you'd be surprised at how much they actually pay attention (any noobs that happen to be listening).

- users
These are regular users, with probably a few hundred posts. They have more complex problems, since they have explored a bit more and generally want more out of actinic. There are a LOT of users.

- l33t
The elite. Smartasses, that spend all day using the godawful slow version 8 until their eyes bleed. they run multiple actinic related businesses and have several actinic shops. Their shops are tricked out with all sorts of mad props.

- lurker
These are users that have an account, and have 0 posts. They simply read the forum, from the shadows, slurping up all the information, and are generally EXPERTS at using the search facility.

BTW:
this isnt an attacking post at anyone... i was just having a brain think. Dont be offended by my mouth words.

lol, can we get wee badges made up 'n stuff?

*starts his own gang* hmmmm ...need help on the name for it....

...and some more members...

...and conditions of membership...

...and an initial thingy...

:D

ahhh....to be a lurker...maybe I should have stayed a lurker..life was so much simpler then.

Then V8 came along and dragged me outta my happy little lurk-home...turned me into a stark-raving loonie monster who can't control what she posts..

Oh well, life as a "user" isn't so bad...although...not sure I like the term "user"...makes me sound like a druggie!

LOL, maybe time for some group avatars sectioning you into a certain category. If vividly colour coded, you could easily sense the theme of a thread.

Hooray! I'm a "user" too! Makes a change from other posts complaining about the amateurs who are not proper businesses and not VAT-registered (which I am). :(

Most forums operate a rank system - rank title is based on number of posts, with special titles given to moderators etc. Here were are almost all listed as "Registered User".

but would you want to be anything else?
Not sure I would!

No, maybe not me, but others might.

*smirks*

I'm starting to think I'd rather vanish into the ether nowadays but even the ether keeps spitting me out and pushing me back into the forum again!
It seems i'm just too at home here

I think of it as my staffroom :D

Mornings Gabs - Slightly different post to the other one :D

Not to sure were i fit now after spending a while looking at a site only to be completely b******s right from the out set? feel a bit of noob at the moment:rolleyes:

anyway perhaps you might have something here, might also help to tame the responses if there is a nice bright colour for threads - likewise could end up being an all out bun fight :D whos' up for it then

D

well, i ahve no idea whats possible with this forum.

but in other forums i'v written/edited it was possible to give the original posters box a different style, so that you could quickly scan the thread, to see their responses. it helped to determine if a problem was sorted or not, by finding the last post they made.

other hacks i'v done were similar to the one suggested, where each person, based on posts, or status, were given a rating, and that rating reflected in the colour of their post box, very subtly, as to not screw up the colours and such of the forum.

the upshot was, more blue posters meant that they were new users and the responses were not very useful and more reddish/purplish posters, meant the high flyers and those in the know posted a reply, and that the topic was of more use.

this automatically gave the topic more weight/kudos.

actually, I was going to suggest that maybe it'd be better to be able to rate certain replies for usefulness rather than (or as well as?) whole threads?
