I've been helping a relative move her work onto a new computer. Last night I installed her family history software and tried running it - crashed with a divide by zero. I went onto a well-known search engine and found that the software is no longer supported by the suppliers, however there is an active forum. So I visited that and entered "divide by zero" into the search facility -
it gave me the answer in seconds, with instructions on downloading and installing a FoxPro patch from M/Soft.
Respect to internet forums with a prominent search facility (hint, hint)

sorry, i couldnt find that post, the forum's search facility was rubbish.
actually, i missed that one entirely :(
yes, its very similar in approach. this one uses javascript to put the querystring together, becasue its the technology i was working on at the time when i started reading this thread. :)
pff! little miss 'i got there first you cheeky mr crowe!'
:D :D
ok, ok, i'll edit the post to include you as a contributor.

of course it does depend how many pages of the forum are listed in Google and how regularly/recently they were updated as to how effective the search actually is...

i get paid, and i ahve the best working environment anyone could ask for.
it just happens that amongst the multiple development rigs here, most of them are loaded with php and sql tech. its not a case of me going really out of my way to make these odd web gems. i can pull much code together quite quickly.
for instance, that start page thinger is bascially a magpieRSS reader, pointed to the forums RSS feeds.
the feeds arent linked, so its a simple case of using the default path for the vbulletin rss feeds. they are split over topics and even over forums. in this case, they are configured to show recent posts.
the structure is xhtml/css. i have plenty of templates ready for that kind of thing. since i'm working with them in actinet every second of every day.
and the images were in photoshop, i have the actinic 'wavy logo loop' is one of my photoshop brushes.
no magic here. :) move right along.

no magic here. :)
shame...I was gonna book you for my boy's birthday party :D
As for the RSS feed...I had that on my bookmarks toolbar for a while but found it a bit slow to update...it never seemed to be very current but I didn't bother to work out why ..better things to do 'n' all that.
anyways...

you're right. lets get that fixed chris.
let the rss feeds be real time!
