Bit of a bizarre problem - not strictly Actinic other than it is stopping me from uploading a site.

I have 8.0.4 loaded on my laptop and FTP works fine in all guises (Actinic; WS FTP; Dreamweaver etc).

I have a PC with 8.5.1 loaded and FTP does not work at all - for any application. I have disabled Norton etc and still no joy. There are no bizare firewall rules on the router.

They both connect to ADSL via a Netgear 834N router. The laptop by CAT5 and the PC by wireless (wrong way round, I know, but it's just the limitations of the building!). Shouldn't make a difference but the more info the better.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

thanks

Andy

Netgear is well know for misbehaving with Actinic when MTU is set below 1500. Try checking/changing that setting.

Best break it down to see if the Router / Wireless / System is failing.

I would lug the desktop to the laptop location and see if it works using the wired connection.

Thanks guys...

I've tweaked the MTU to no effect.

I have a long CAT5 "fly lead" running through the building to the laptop (thick walls + electrical equipment prevent wireless!!) that I can easily take to the PC so I'll try that tonight.

thanks

On the machine which is having the issue and assuming this is an XP machine, go into the Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services and locate the DNS Client, click it and stop it and then right click and disable it from running again. Then, reboot the machine and see if that solves it, as could have had corruption on its retained dns config within the might Windoz DNS client it runs without anyone knowing, which could be causing the unique issue..

It appears to be a wireless problem.

I connected the offending PC to my router using CAT5 and it works perfectly!

Only problem is that email doesn't work! I just need to investigate the Internet Mail Service as that doesn't seem to want to load! (never had to use email on this PC before!)

Thanks for your replies.
