Barcode variable?

Hi folks

Does anyone know if the barcode field in the product details "general" tab (in Actinic V8 business multisite ) has a variable ?
i.e. can it be referenced in other parts of the site - underneath the product description for example.

I had posted this query in the main v8 forum but got asked to try here !

Hi Simon

I'm afraid the barcode isn't available as a variable in the HTML. However, you could create a user-definable variable called something like 'BarCodeForDisplay' and then populate it for your products as follows:

1) Back up your store with a snapshot
2) Use 'File | Export' to export a hierarchical file.
3) Re-import the file, replaceing your data, and map the 'Bar Code' field to both 'Bar Code' and 'BarCodeForDisplay'.

This will automatically populate your data with the correct values. I'll add the request for a new variable to the wish list though.

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried mapping the field as you stated, but I get the message "You cannot map an import field to several record fields. Please Retry"

I am probably not doing it right !

Is it correct that I drag the "Barcode" item from the import field column, and drop it onto my user defined variable (in this case "EAN") ?

Hmm - no. you are doing it correctly. Maybe do an update rather than a replace and JUST map the Bar Code field to the 'EAN' field. That should do it.
