For 18 months i have wanted to get an outside tap on the side of the house, so when i want to water my hanging baskets, i am not forced to trail a 30 metre hose from the back garden each time.
As luck would have it, earlier on in the week i popped down to see the wife and she is watching QVC and they have exactly what i have wanted for the side of house (a nice compact 20 metre hose reel). Great i order it and it arrived today, i unpack it set it all up and attach it to my new outside tap on the side of the house...and nothing comes out at all. FFS what's this crap QVC, it doesn't work. After 5 minutes of investigation, it turns out that not only is mains water off for my street, it is for most of my area.
It's going to be off for at least a day, there is a subway and a house currently under 10 foot of water due to the massive main that has split. Fire brigade are pumping it out so they can get to it to start the repair.
Never had water unavailable in my life, how ironic it happens on the one day when i get my new hose......sods law as they say....gotta love it.

save your money, throw a few ice cubes into the basket, they slowly melt instead of flooding the basket in one go :o

I can bring it back on topic, with confirmation that my water is now back on.
It appears to have come on some time through the night and incredibly we now have water pressure about 50% stronger. Although this is great, i did leave the lawn sprinkler on overnight and due to the extra water pressure it has managed to wash both cars, soak the drive and worst of all with the downstairs window left open, now has a little lake on the window sill with a bit on the carpet. Windows were only cleaned a few days ago, now they are trashed too.

Glad water is back on Lee, sorry about the minor flood and as for the preasure perhaps the leak had been there for a while and then finaly burst, you just never know.
Funny you should say that though, my water preasure is getting lower these days, mind you we were on a hose pipe ban for well over a year, even in the winter, to many bloody houses and no one has built a resovoir in the last 30 years, yet it's our fault because we use more water, and it's not enviromentaly friendly to use lots of water ? Someone has probably calculated that by reducing the preasure by 10psi reduces the flow by x litres which will save x litres, not that it takes me longer to do anything  so i still use the same amount of water

Windows were only cleaned a few days ago, now they are trashed too. what a whinger you are Lee - get out there with a newspaper and vinegar and give those windows a polish....
then syphon up the water on the drive, freeze it, make ice cubes and water your hanging baskets
then congratulate yourself and take the baby and swing in the hammock for the rest of the day...

That was my thinking too, it was never bad before, but boy its like a fire hydrant at the moment, unless of course they've got us on an emergency system i guess.
Maybe low pressure is a sign of leaks all over the place, if you'd seen what this broken pipe had managed to flood in such a short time, you'd be astonished. It must be under such high pressure. The guy on the emergency line even said if you are anywhere near, make sure you go and have a look it will be breathtaking...it was....there is a little subway for crossing a road, the water was a foot below the top of it, i had walked under it a few days ago.

LOL croccy that did make me chuckle, i wasn't whinging, merely commenting though.
I do like the ice cubes trick, definitely one for the future, a very good idea.
I can't do the windows, window cleaner might take the hump...ahem...
And the hammock is out of action for the day as we're off out shortly, just waiting for the dairy to close.
A funny post though croccy, you getting funnier by the day, seem to make me chuckle at least once a day or is that Chris D?...never mind. Any ideas where the grand prix is this weekend?
