Hi,
I'm having issues with getting my SMTP setup using 1&1 and I really can't get my head around it. Actinic say that it doesn't seem to work but can't figure out why and 1&1 are saying they don't support Actinic but the SMTP details I have should work fine...
I'm basically using the Server: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk.
My username is my e-mail address. i..e Miketurner@neddyup.com and my password is my e-mail password. If I try and use these details in Outlook it works fine.
When I put them in to Catalog I receive similar error "Server refused the connection".
I have tried with and without my userdetails....
Anyone have any experience on this with 1&1 as I'm stumped?
Thanks
Mike

Try these settings - they work for me:

There are many, many posts on this site with preferred and working email settings for 1 and 1.
I use auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk
authentication NOT checked
username and password empty

At least you are on Unix and actinic seems to be running OK.
Do as the guys above have posted. I don't remember anyone not being able to get these settings to work.

Ok, I've gone into the network settings and the smtp is now set to auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk the username and password tick is unticked and I have nothing in the username / password fields.
When I click the test button I now get:
server: passed
connection: passed
sockets: passed
communications: failed
authorisation: failed
message: SMTP Authentication is not supported by this server!
Any more ideas?

Try closing and restarting Actinic in case that setting is cached somewhere.

Guys,
I just had a response from 1and1. They actually recommend using the following SMTP server if you are using scripts on your site:
mrvnet.kundenserver.de
The server does work but no idea of whether it performs better than auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk - I know I've seen a few posts saying that there are sometimes e-mail delays with this server, however the test mails I just sent through came pretty fast.

Conflict with the in2site wrapper/frameset you are using?
Couple of years ago now, but I remember failing miserably with my own attempts to use that (and indeed most) 1 and 1 'included in package' software.

Hi,
I'm having problems with 1and1 SMTP, it was working fine for over a month, and then last Wednesday it just stopped working. The setting for the smtp server is as follows
SMTP server: auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk
Username and Password Required checkbox: unchecked
When i do a network settings test i get the following:
Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
server: passed
connection: failed
sockets: passed
communications: failed
authorisation: failed
message: Connection refused
I have not changed any settings at all and find it very strange that it should be working fine for over a month and then suddenly stop.
Any help on this would be much appreciated

When things that have worked fine, suddenly stop working for no apparent reason, your host has usually done or changed something - I'd give them a call and find out. That is of course if you have done nothing as 90% of people who say that, have indeed done something to affect the smooth running.
