View Full Version : Upload Fails V8.5.1

Since I upgraded to V8.5.1 HFUA I am having intermittent timeout problems on upload. It runs through all the checking sections, products etc then gets to 'Reviewing Files' hangs for a while then just fails with no error message.
Admittedly my site is considerably larger with more html pages than before (thanks Google base!) . I just can't seem to track down the problem whether it be Actinic or maybe my host (heartinternet). Anyone else having this problem?

Regarding Actinic, have you compacted the db etc to ensure all is clean internally?
When you say quite large, how many lines have you got in your store?
You say it 'just fails' do you mean the program crashed or just sits there?

Yes compacted db, hard restart etc.
What happens is the upload routine runs completely normally with the dialog box recording the actions taken but when it gets to 'Reviewing Files' it just seems to take rather longer than necessary and then the dialog disappears. However, the program doesn't crash and I can continue quite normally.
Thanks for your interest

Hi
Take a snapshot and put it somewhere safe (out of Actinic's way ;) ).
Which flavour of 8.5.1 you on? The lastest is HIZA, also whats you OS? Have you got this site live before? Or is it a new build?
A clean install could be a faster solution than mucking around. When you establish a connection to your host, try using the network wizard. This will help id any problematic step in this process IMHO.

I'm on HFUA (Multi-Site) on XP Home SP2. No this is not a new build and has in fact been upgraded from V7...a clean install fills me with dread although I have this problem on more than one site so I suppose it does indicate some sort of program glitch....I guess I'll give it a try!

Good luck Andrew.
Make sure you snapshot all your sites first ;)

Ok took a deep breath and snapshots, re-installed Actinic and all was well (after a bit of confusion about the new location for Product Images). However, I still got the same old uploading problem. So more thinking about this and turned my attention to my broadband connection which I discovered was slower than a dial-up...so rebooted my router which I hadn't done for 9 days and voila the problem seems to have gone away...fingers crossed! Thanks for the help.

Well that was a false dawn...the same old dialog box disappears at 'Reviewing Files' thing came back a few days later and has continued intermittently ever since.
I have tried everything - compact database, change script number, increase timeout delay, change permissions on acatalog and cgi-bin to minimum 755, taking out non querty characters in sections and products, you name it I have tried it.
The only solution is many cups of coffee and try again later! Maybe V9 will help but I am not holding my breath. This kind of problem makes one consider what alternatives to Actinic there are out there......

There is an old problem that shouldn't still be showing up these days. It's a bit of a long shot, but in the face of nothing else working.
Try ticking the 'Use Passive FTP' box in network setup (and if it is already ticked, try unticking it).

Hi Andrew,
I have this problem on more than one site so I suppose it does indicate some sort of program glitch....I guess I'll give it a try!
Not necessarily if all sites are at the same host and on the same server ;)
It's maybe time to contact support (0845 129 4848 if you have a support contract or via the email form (http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm) if you don't) so we can get a snapshot to try it out here.

Thanks for input Mike but I have tried changing this back and forth without any success....

Hi Andrew,

Yes I see your point - they are all on the same host (Heartinternet) although not on the same server.
I did contact Jason at Actinic Support previously about this and he did try to help, unfortunately the poor bloke was off due to illness during this time and (not his fault) I didn't pursue it with him.
My latest theory is that this is an ISP/Host problem - maybe something about keeping the connection alive during upload.
We are having the same problem since we upgraded to 8.5.2 Business MU. The problem is intermittent and does not provide any clues as to the cause. The upload just silently fails at the Reviewing Files stage (this also causes problems with our mole end automation as it waits indefinitely for the upload to finish).
We have tried compacting the db, taking a snapshot, uninstalling and re-installing all to no avail. Once the problem has occurred, the only way we can get an upload through is to reboot the PC (running Windows XP).

Can I suggest that everyone with the problem contacts support so that we can do some testing to narrow down the problem. We will need your snapshots so we can see if we can recreate the problem and if so we may be able to find out what is common between all your sites and resolve it for you. Let whoever you deal with know about this thread too.

Hi Donna,
I can't see any reports from Andrew or Donna regarding this issue so I'd have to suggest that you contact support (call if you have a cover contract or use the link in my signature for email support) so we can investigate the problem further.

Still having this problem and getting very frustrated so I decided to install Actinic on my brand new Intel Core2 Duo 2gb Ram laptop and copy across a snapshot. It uploaded straightaway! So there is your answer people just buy a new PC !

Having upgraded to 8.5.3 IHDB, I'm experiencing exactly the same problem - Upload hanging at 'Review files' and also causing One Stop Automation to stop its upload.
Support are not doing very much - very slow at responding - and don't seem to have a clue what the problem is.
Can anyone help?

Hi
This is gonna seem like a vague reply but unfortunately I can't remember the exact details of what I did to solve this problem.
I was getting the exact same happening when I upgraded to 8.5.3 and also upgraded my laptop and changed from XP to Vista.
I did everything that was suggested on here and it still froze at either reviewing files or sending catalog files then I'd get a timeout error. I was also getting an ftp error. You can find my problems listed in this forum. My host said it wasn't them and actinic support advised I revert to XP.
But then I started fiddling and I found somewhere in Actinic (this is what I mean by vague!) where I could change the length of time before the upload timeouts. So I changed it to the maximum time possible and the problem was solved.
But unfortunately I can't remember what the steps were I took to get to the timeout place cos I was just fiddling trying to solve it.
Perhaps someone more skilled in Actinic than me will be able to advise where to find this again so you could at least try it.
Good luck, apologies again for my vagueness.

probably under network settings, and tick enhanced ftp, then the button on the right for ftp options will become live, then you can change the settings in there.
Actinic is not very good at listening to ftp responses from servers, sometimes it go's a little deaf ;)
