View Full Version : Which MP3 player for Mrs Jont
jont

Want to get Mrs Jont an MP3 player for her birthday. Being a valve amp music man this is alien territory ... are there options beyond the ubiquitous iPod (I hear Creative have some good offerings)?
Any suggestions most welcomed .. mainly to free my desk from CD's scattered elbow deep.

When you've decided, take a picture of it and then take a picture of the MiL when she is sleeping. Put both in a card and say 'when this goes for good, you get this for good'

I have a Creative Zen player, very good for me, nice big screen to make it easy to select what to play, loads of space and it sounds good. Haven't checked for a while and have had it for a year and a half now but it was reviewed as the best when I got it.

Creative Zen V
Various types depending on needs and budget. Small, tough, rechargable via usb. Miss G has an ipod and I wouldn't swap it for this wee marvel.

The new iPod Touch, which is basically the iPhone without the phone is mindblowing. To touch one is to need one. If you really don't want to buy one, do not go near an Apple shop.:o

There are better players around than the ipod. Other players have better sound, play more file types, are less fragile and offer more for the money.
But if it's a present for the mrs then an ipod is the only answer. Anything else will be seen as a slap in the face.
Mike
Ipod all the way - does what it says on the tin, nice to use, looks the biz and ours are lasting well.
Factory integrated in to car hifi big +. Use it with Mac at home PC at work.
We don't use Apple ear phones but have some decent in ear ones which probably make a bit of difference.

get an old ipod, and strip out that crappy apple interface.
in fact any mp3 player will run the amazing rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/)

very true indeed, i'm on my 3rd ipod.
I also have a walkman mp3 player (NW-A1000) also whilst it is more robust, it doesn't have the ipod click wheel...

the other day i found a tool that let you use any mp3 device with itunes.
including cheap supermarket mp3 players. a few of them actually.
this is one that worked for me:
http://www.binaryfortress.com/itunes-sync/
for all those people who want itunes, but dont want to put up with the ipod.

You can also burn your itunes to a CD and then copy them back to the pooter as MP3's.

the mp3s are still on your pod, as wierd names.
use musicbrainz tagger, to use the actual sounds of the mp3s, to give them the correct names.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there Mike .. I lean towards the Creative but think it has to be the iPod for all the "wrong" reasons .... but a happy Missus is worth every penny :)
I was so happy with my Creative Zen wotist, I must so not be a Mrs. Oh dear.

I always knew Jan was a Dutch name
I've said this before but I have been emailed/phoned vy people to ask if I am a man or a woman. Strassen is a German name by the way, I got it throught marriage, my maiden name is a good british name - Raine

Which begs the follow up question.. getting CD's onto an iPod... is the bundled software all that is needed or is there anything else out there better (or does it mount as an external drive to drag and drop)?
RuralWeb
05-Oct-2007, 08:47 PM
is the bundled software all that is needed itunes is IMO the best on the market and obviously made to integrate with the ipod also you will find that other players do have different formats to the ipod so keep it all Apple and you cannot go wrong.
You can download it for free and rip a few cds for practice but even my 6 year old daughter can use it!

I've always pictured your life as moving from one extreme to the other. One minute you are an adrenalyn junkie and the next you are like an old lady snuggled up with a cup of hot cocoa, waiting to push the daisies up.
Surely if you walked around wearing a wetsuit, you could bear the cold, dark nights a little better? Either that or have another holiday away in Spain with Mal.:p

The cable car was good, you were completely rigid for the whole trip, the beach after it was good as well, although some of the scenery would have been better off covered up. (It snowed in Aylesbeare yesterday by the way  just a little bit but still snow)
