Actinic seems to send "an order has been received" emails even if the card payment via Secure Trading has failed, so the custoimer doesn't always realise there is a problem - is there any way to stop receipt emails going out in these circumstances?

The 'An order has been received on your website' email is just notification that a new order has been placed on the website. It is completely different from the receipt email that is sent to the customer. The receipt email is only sent if payment is completed and the customer retruns to the website.
