Hi,

We have just changed our website hosting and are receiving an error stating that "An Error Occurred While Sending The Merge Request".

Can anyone offer any advice please?

Another little bug.

Ignore it, upload again and all should be well. Look at your store after you get this message, you will see no error it is just a little quirk

However, if something is amiss, compact your db and refresh your site, that should do it

I get this problem right now, the knowledge base does not help me as everything it suggests does not solve it. I have spoke with customer support etc and no one can aid me.

I did a test and I get the message "you may not have permission to cgi-bin" etc, now I have checked my cgi-bin and I have all the right attributes at 755.

This is the REAL odd bit about it all, the test fails on V8 but if I load up my old version (V5) it passes and the settings are identicle.

Help?

Do you have a live site other than the V8 version you are attempting to upload?

it's hard to say..but are you using the V5 catalogue?
If not, it might be worth removing ALL traces of it and attempting to purge and refresh again.

I ain't using it right now, I will make a complete back up of it thought. then what? just delete the catalog in the program (v5), upload on v5 and then reload V8 and refresh on that one? I wanna be 100% sure I don't lose the site.

I didn't mean deleting in the software...

do you have a LIVE site at the minute? using a version of Actinic?
You said you'd uploaded a V5 version, is that a live site? or an old extinct one?

I'm just exploring the possibility that your script problem could be caused by trying to have more than one live version uploaded (ie overwriting a V5 site with a V8 one)

As Jo said, your permissions error problem clearly needs sorting before an upload though.. if you uploaded your V5 site and you don't need it, see if you can remove all the files it generated (using your FTP software?) before attempting another test/upload

Yeah the V5 is live, www.custom-wizard.com/acatalog/index.html I think I see where you are getting at, cause if you look at it. You will see the sections are duplicated.

Also how do I resolve my issue with the CGI-BIN? cause customer support and I are lost on that one.

is your V8 site in test mode?
Are you trying to overwrite your V5 site with a LIVE V8 site or uploade a V8 testsite alongside it?

ok..firstly, brave move.
I would recommend putting your V8 into TEST mode first and getting it fully tested before making it live.

Web > Switch to Test Mode

This will then upload the site to www.custom-wizard.com/acatalog/test and so allow you to run both, side by side, while you check your new V8 version for errors.

It could be the fact that you're attempting to overwrite V5 with V8 that is causing the issue.
Try putting it into TESt mode and run a Web > Refresh Website.

See what happens. It may or maynot help but it probably a wiser move than just uploading it live without checking first.
I'm hoping someone with a bit more network setup/upload experience will jump in, tbh!

your V5 site is now broken, so refresh this first, then do as tracey says and use the test mode in v8 to do the final tweaks.

when your V8 is ready to go live i suggest you FTP to the webspace and remove all cat and fil files from acatalog folder, and all the 000001.pl and pm files from cgi-bin. and refresh

It is the fil files that are causing the merge errors

Yeah still not worked, got the V5 back up and running atleast but the V8 still has the same problem even in test mode.:confused:

This is a long shot, but could it be something to do with security settings on your new server?

I only ask because we experienced general cgi permission errors with several Actinic shops on our (new at the time) dedicated server. It turned out to be an Apache module called mod_dosevasive which is designed to prevent denial-of-service and brute force attacks. Trouble is, depending on how it is set up, it sometimes treats Actinic as a threat. I have no idea if this would have affected v5, but it certainly affects v7.

I am also suffering a merge problem which won't go away...

My client has had multiple problems in trying to upload their site:

"An error occurred while merging files on the remote site. The web site index has been corrupted. Catalog is unable to update the index.
Copy .../public_htlm/acatalog/fulltext.fil to …/public_htlm/acatalog/oldtext.fil failed. Permission denied. Please refresh site."

This was (apparently) fixed by unchecking Enhanced FTP.

Now during upload they recieve the error ‘An error occurred while sending the merge request’.

The network test works fine,They have compacted the database but this has still not solved the problem. I have also checked that the permissions for the cgi bin are chmod 755. I have even manually cleaned the part uploaded files off the server for a clean install but still no success.

By the way they are using Virgin Media Broadband if this is relevant. I don't know of any need for proxy server settings.

Do you have any suggestions I could try?

Do a website purge & refresh, go to help>troubleshooting>website purge & refresh. then once done refresh the site.

On another note, I have sorted this problem and just doing some final touches to the site now, I would like to thank all that have helped me.
