Actinic is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with HSBC to develop a payment gateway which integrates Actinic Ecommerce (Catalog, Business and Developer) with HSBC Secure ePayments. The gateway will be compatible with Actinic Ecommerce v4 and above and is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2003.

An announcement about the release of this is imminent so look out for that on the community.

With regards to installation and setup, the process will be almost identical to working with a current PSP.

So who do I speak to about this at HSBC?

I'm currently an HSBC customer, used to have a merchant account with HSBC but for the last 2.5 years have used Cardsave via Streamline. I was looking at Protix as we need to have online processing - too many orders to continue as we are :) , and have been asking HSBC about HSBC Secure Payments, but no-one seems to know of it or even to have heard of Actinic. Now I realise that the ladies and gentlemen answering the phone or making call backs to emails are really working from a script, and that this info probably hasn't made it to their screen but despite promising to locate Someone Who Knows to call me back, I am still waiting! And I do know HSBC would love to have my business back.

Try:

http://www.ukbusiness.hsbc.com/hsbc/mrp/cards/secure-epayments/internet

If you then click on "For more information click here" it gives some phone numbers.

Once HSBC have set you up to take Internet payments you should be able to enter the details that they send you into Actinic, click upload and away you go. Actinic has in-built help on configuring HSBC, once you are in that part of the system.

Hope that helps.

That's where I clicked the link and asked them to call me back......which they did, but the department doing the callbacks don't know about it!

Any specific named persons would be really helpful, thank you!

hello, allthough this doesnt help you i thought you might like to note my experiance with hsbc as well.
I bought actinic cat in Oct 2003, i have a business account with hsbc.
I asked them about actinic but they new less than nothing, although actinic did say they were dealing with hsbc. I made several phone calls, nobody anywhere in hsbc had heard about actinics or their own epayments.
My bank manager new less than me when it comes to online transactions. I was informing him. After looking through all the forums and websites i went with Protx and a merchant account with Barklys.
Hsbc i am stuck with at the moment.Until i can find time to open a new business account with a nother bank.
HSBC turned me down for a merchant account, new nothing of actinic or epayments. It seems they are playing catch up to the other banks that got into online transactions years ago.
I emailed them last week about epayments, just to find out what they are charging. I am still waiting for a reply.
Sorry if this seems like a lecture, i wouldnt personaly recomend hsbc to anyone. Although most banks are as bad i guess.
They are just so slow and uniformed about their own policys.

I think a lot depends on the branch: I'm very fortunate in that my local business manager, Jane, is the same person I opened my account with 4 years ago, and is quite clued up (Woodley nr Reading if it helps anyone). I also have the added incentive to use them as I get a parking permit to collect my daughter from nursery nearby so can pop in there too, also they have an attended machine in our village Waitrose which is where I usually shop. I did stop using HSBC for a while but got wooed back with a further year free banking that got extended (so in just over 4 years I've only paid for about 6m of banking).

I'm quite confident once I have found the right person to talk to I'll get somewhere. I rang again today as Sunday is often quiet on the phones and you tend to get the very helpful ladies who work part time to fit around family who are there because they want to work (the sort I like employing) and the one I spoke to has dug out this number 0116 281 8548 as being the Secure ePayments department's direct line number. I shall be obtaining names of people to deal with. Please don't phone it at 9.20 on Monday as I will want to get through then! :D

hello,
have just rang the phonenumber for epayments, they kept me waiting ages although it is monday morning. They still couldnt help me and suggested i went to my local hsbc branch to enquire about epayments. This i said was stupid. I got put through to someobe else who in turn diverted me to somebody called gareth.
gareth new about epayments but said that i would have to fill out some forms before they could even give me a base figure of their charges.
All i wanted to know is how much they charge for the base things like set up, percentage on visas etc...
I informed them most of the other psp's provide a base figure for this on their websites.
I havent time to waste going to my local hsbc to fill in forms for this information.
Carnt recomend hsbc to anyone.

I think the number above so for those who already have an HSBC merchant account.

The number for new customers is: 08457 585 150

Let us know how you get on.

Well I got on fine:spoke to 'Kev' on the 0116 number, and got the low down: they do charge a £200 set up fee (which is not so good & they wouldn't budge on this, hey ho someone has to pay for their software development costs I suppose) ,1% for credit cards & 4p/transaction for debit cards. On the basis of my projected turnover growing at the same rate as it has the last year , and av order values & proportions credit/debit staying the same (I have a high debit card % compared to many, about 50-55%%) then I think I'll be starting off the year paying a bit more than I might using Protix (if I include the set up fee), but by the end of the year HSBC will be cheaper, so am going HSBC. I think I'd stick with Protix if my CC % was higher or my av order value higher, but as I have a high % of debit cards those 6ps all add up, I shall now wonder how using the system might change this % if at all..

Then I called Kelly the lady who I spoke to via the branch for merchant facility (I have her mobile), and she is coming to sign me up on Wednesday. As I've already got a merchant account with Cardsave via Steamline this bit was easy|: they'll match the rates

Apologies: I wrote the rates down wrongly (easily done with a 4.5yo demanding attention every time you pick up the phone, thank goodness my customers are in the same boat or worse they have more than 1) its actually 10p/transaction. So Protix is def best bet.
