These two pages are very large (1.1Mb and 1.4Mb). Perhaps it's related to that - it would explain the fact that it works on reload.

One thing I would do is move the GA urchin tracking code to the bottom of the page instead of at the top.

I would suspect this is due to your host and delivery of the pages.
Other's may be able to comment...

On these pages, the images seem very large which will not help the page size, nor loading time. (right click - properties).
Even on broadband, your pages take a while to load and this will put off customers.

Have you tried optimizing the images? - essential for all web images. Optimised images should be very small for web pages whilst minimizing loss to image quality. Each image should only take a second or two to load.
Even Photoshop has this tool (save for web) or there are other pieces of software, specifically for this purpose.

OriginalTouch

I did a website optimization test on one of the pages for you. You will see that your images alone take over 30 seconds to load. All images on each page together should ideally be less than 30K. As an example, one of your images alone is over 30 kb - multiply this by the number of images!!!!

This analyzer is now available at WebPageAnalyzer.com for your convenience.

* TOTAL_HTML - Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization.
* TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 115 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
* TOTAL_IMAGES - Warning! The total number of images on this page is 111 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
* TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 1457099 bytes, which will load in 313.40 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. Consider contacting us about our optimization services.

All images on each page together should ideally be less than 30KNot really - these days you can go quite high as 65% of the UK population has broadband. 100K is a good working level as G tends not to look at pages much above this.

Even in the days of dialup a good guide was about 85K.

Yes you are probably right - especially as most people are on broadband nowadays.
Still, these pages are far too large for web optimisation and the images should be optimised. It can only help!

these pages are far too large They certainly are as Duncan pointed out but wether that is the cause of the problem I doubt it as I have seen far worse pages without such an error message.

I use photoshop and i use the save to web. I must be doing something wrong? Is there a specice way of saving the images

OriginalTouch
20-Dec-2007, 08:20 PM
What version of Photoshop do you have?

Another thing that has struck me, you must also ensure that the image size is small before you do this, there is no point in optimising a huge image, only to resize it on the web page.

So in Photoshop, choose, image, image size and make the image size about the same size as you want in shown on the screen first, such as in pixels.

Then, choose save for web and then in settings, you can choose low to maximum resolution, or even the quality scroll bar on the right to choose the quality. Look at the preview to see how your image degrades to choose the best setting. Beneath the image on the left is a resultant size of the image and the amount of seconds to load. Ensure that the image is beneath 100K and less than a few seconds.

This also depends on the amount of images you have on each page. You have a lot. Some people prefer to use thumbnails on one page, to then link to larger images on a resultant page.

Search engines prefer less products per page.

don't forget - some people are moving to 3g broadband which does have monthly transfer limits - therefore it is better to keep images sensibly sized - Malc's suggestion of 75-100k MAX per page is good

Thank you for everyone letting me know about the size of my pages. I am getting a new and better layout. That should help the size of the pages.

But I still don't know why that error is coming up still.
