Ticket/Barcode Printing

I'm getting to the point were I need to generate my own barcodes......to keep track of stock...etc

After looking through the printing options in EPOS I've settled for Avery J8159 Code 39 Product Code....as it gives me the price, barcode, product name and product code all on one label

I've read on here that some folk have had issues scanning codes if they've been printed via inkjet....but luckily enough I have a laser printer....so fingers crossed

Just though I'd ask more experienced user if they can foresee me having any problems with the printing choice above.....and does anyone know of a label supplier that's cheap?

I'm not in front of my epos at the moment, but I think this is the 24 per sheet format. We find that its not necessarily the printer that causes scanning issues, but the length of the barcode - so keep them short. Laser printers are better, but still not 100%. We put the barcodes on anyway whether we think it will scan or not as at least it makes the item easier to look up manually if you have the prod code on the barcode.

One other thought - if you print the price on it, be confident that you won't need to change it anytime soon. One final thought - if any of your products are likely to be bought as gifts - don't put prices on the barcode as the stickers are a sod to take off!

As an extra warning to Nick's advice, because of the way EPOS works, the barcodes it generates are based on the product code therefore long product codes create long barcodes.
This is fine if you choose big labels but causes us problems using 21 per sheet labels (Barcodes/Avery J8160 Labels - 21 per Sheet) so may cause you even more problems using a smaller, 39 per sheet label.
According to Actinic development team next release of EPOS (due?) will fix the current barcode issues.

We've been generating our product codes via EPOS. These tend to be (at the moment) 5 digits in legnth. I'm pressuming that the more products that are in the system the larger the product codes will become?

Had another play about in the shop earlier and I think we'll probably go for the Avery L7651 65 per sheet. I'm going to nip to out local office supplies tomorrow and try them out before we bulk purchase

I've done a couple of test now with this size and everything seems okay (fingers crossed)

The problem I have here is that most of our products are small.....the size of a match box. Had a bit of a price check today regarding labels.....it looks as though it's going to cost us about £500ish to barcode everything....I'm going to spend the next day or two hunting for cheap labels:)

Just picking up on this thread after reading through the site prior to undertaking an upgrade - looking for any pointers.

Thought I'd chip into this if it's not to late. I opted not to use Actinic to produce my barcode labels via ticket printing, instead I use Avery DesignPro (I thin you can down load a free copy). I have a full version and this allows me to add images and barcodes, company logo, ingredients etc etc. anyway in my opinion once you've created the label it has more flexibility.

Back to the question on labels AALabels at Peterbrorough are brilliant genrealy around half the price of Avery, available in numerous finishes and colours. Normally next day delivery.

I like your idea as, this will be better in case of tickets having barcode right??
