Hi
Does anyone manage stock levels and hide/unhide products outside of Actinic? We find Actinic very slow to update products.
Presumably I could create a simple query and point it at the live database??!?!? We currently run lots of read-only queries on a back-up but I have never been brave enough to run against live before.
Does anyone else have experience in this sort of thing?

Many people use the External Link feature of Actinic to link it to an external data source such as a database or spreadsheet that contains the product reference and stock levels.
This means that you can link Actinic to existing stock level data sources and allow a two-way updating of stock levels between Actinic and your datasource.
Is this what you are after? or have I missed a salient point in your post?

Hi, yes. This is exactly want I want....I missed this feature. I will look up about it now. I had presumed I would have to build it myself. Whilst I am happy to write database queries as information only / read only (on a back-up) I wouldn't be so happy to do it on live as a writeable query. The "External Link feature of Actinic" makes me feel happier!

External Link feature of Actinic
Ah... the reason I didn't know about it was that it is a Business or Developer function. I am only on Catalog. This and the promotions/coupon aspect would definately be worth it but I suspect v7 Business is not available anymore.
(Yes, I am upgrading to v8 and v9 but not until the end of this year)

Ah, it is still available and with cover I can get a free upgrade to v9 later this year. Great!
