Seen on the BBC site today...
Microsoft is warning Windows Vista users that a forthcoming service pack for the operating system may stop some third-party programs working.
Reflections of the XP SP2 update perhaps.

Hi Duncan - this fully makes sense in my mind. All developers of Vista approved software *should* have been working against the betas of SP1 for a while now getting their software ready.
It is a pain when software suddenly stops working, but at the end of the day the OS manufacturer has to rely on the software vendors to make their software compatible, not the other way round (in my opinion).
I've been using Actinic v8 for the last two weeks or so against SP1 on Vista and I'm happy to say I've had no problems with it :). Also, none of my software appears to have broken by the SP1 install and I'm using mostly standard off-the shelf software.
Cheers

Anyone tried Actinic on Vista 64bit? We have all the bits to build a 64 bit beast here but are deliberating over whether it's going to cause us more problems than it's worth.

Is it any faster after SP1??

I've not noticed any performance increases generally - but then I never had any problems running it in the first place.
One thing that is definitely improved, and I've noticed it is copying of large files (or lots of small files). This is greatly improved.

Hi Darren - the release version of SP1 is out now so I wouldn't worry too much about the beta at this point.
Cheers

Ah - I see - fair enough. I've had no problems with it on the six machines I've installed it on, but to be fair, they are all pretty modern machines all with 4GB of ram.
