CGI BIN permissions [Archive] - Actinic Community

My host is networksolutions.com. Wen I checked my CGI-BIN permissions they were 2775. I tried changing them to 0775 but it does not allow me to do so and says "can not change mode". Is that a problem?

The 755 is the bit that matters. It should not be a problem.

In this case you would need to ask your host to change them and they need to be 755 not 775.

I called network solutions and they said that the cgi-bin permissions are set to 775 and they can not change that. They said I can change the permissions to any folder within the cgi-bin, but not the directory itself. How would that affect working with actinic as I am already facing problems getting the network settings right becuase the netowrk settings test always fails. Could that be the reason? Do I need to change hosting company?

I have seen too many permissions on the cgi-bin to cause problems in the past but I couldn't really say if that is the case here. It may be that the problem is that if you can't change the permission on the folder, then the software may be having trouble setting the correct permissions on the scripts in that folder.

They said I can change the permissions to any folder within the cgi-
You could try creating another folder within the cgi-bin and set the permissions on that and then point to that folder in the network settings.

If the above doesn't work, then to be able to help you further with this I would need to have your ftp details so I could take a look on the server to see how it is set up. You could email them to me via my profile if you need me to take a look.

Tracey, I have created another folder and called it cgi-bin inside the original cgi-bin directory with permissions set to 0755 and pointed to that folder in actinic settings. The problem is still there. You can read more about my problem in my earlier post "perl environment-operation timed out". Please tell me the exact information required for you to view my ftp.
