Hi,
V7.0.3
I have used quite long titles, with keywords, for my shop sections, this seems to help with seo as the sections appear as links on my homepage.
My problem is that these titles are then used in the section menu (on the left hand side of my shop) As they are quite long, the section menu looks a bit complicated and messy.

Is there any way i can have different (shorter) text in the section links than what i have used as section titles?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Mark
(I currently use a customvar 'owntitle' to use my own pagetitles... that might no be relevant)

currently use a customvar 'owntitle' to use my own pagetitles
Stop using this and write the page title in by hand - you can then shorten the section navigation text and the page title will be different.

Hi Rural Web,
Thanks for the reply, though i'm not sure what you mean.
For example the section title 'Wooden Flesh Plugs and Tunnels'
I've set the page name as;wooden-flesh-tunnels-plugs.html so this is the html page name.
I use properties: to give my own page title: wooden flesh tunnels, plugs and ear stretchers and expanders. This is the page title which google uses;
I do this so i can have a more comprehensive page title description... works well.
<html><head><TITLE> wooden flesh tunnels, plugs and ear stretchers and expanders</TITLE><Actinic:BASEHREF VALUE="http://www.arka-shop.co.uk/acatalog/"/><META NAME="ACTINICTITLE" CONTENT="Wooden Flesh Tunnels and Plugs"><META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="body piercing,ear,expanders,flesh tunnel,organic,plugs,retail shop ,tubes,wood,wooden">
<META NAME="Description" CONTENT="wooden flesh tunnels, plugs, tubes and ear expanders">
I want the section titles to remain the same, as they appear as hard links on my front page.
I just want the text for the section menu links (on the left hand side) to be shorter.
Best Regards,
Mark

Let me make make it more basic... I think i've over complicated.
Section Details: General :Name
This name is used as the section titles and therefore hard links on my front page; which is all good.

However, its also used as the text for the section links dynamic menu (on the left of my page) Here, the length of text looks messy.. So i'd like it shorter there.
Can i do this?

Can i do this?
Yes and improve SEO at the same time - bin the automated navigation and hardcode your top level sections.... this will allow you to truncate the sectio9n names and provide non cgi-bin links at the same time.

Hi Jont, Of course!! Doh!
I'd like to keep the links in the same place, do you know off hand which template to edit..?
and do i need to somehow disable the automated navigation ? or just leave that alone?
Thanks very much,
Mark

If you are replacing the navigation with your own hardcoded navigation then you can place it in Act_Primary or/and Act_BrochurePrimary.

.. and Act_PrimaryCheckout.html to cover the cart pages.
You can <!-- comment out --> the automated system to leave in case you need to roll back for any reason.

Mark - you may want to look at the size of the header area of the site. Viewing it on the laptop and the majority of the screen is made up with the header and I need to scroll before seeing the products. Just a thought.

I'd ditto that, the moving part at the top is more than enough IMO.

Thanks for the interest and the comments.
You may be right about the size of the header. I wanted the word 'arka' to have a BIG visual impact, so people couldnt forget it. Lots of people revisit me searching for 'arka' so that has worked... but i understand your views on it being too big, i may look into it soon. Thanks,
Mark

That is the factory default layout - sounds like it has been changed to use the Act_Primary.html at some point - doesn't matter so long as everything is working. Nice one.
